Can anyone tell me about the safety of using thymolize solution to treat nail fungus? My big toenail fell off, and tested positive for nail fungus. However, I am hesitant to take oral medication, not only because of potential side effects but also because of expense. Thymolize solution was recommeded to me by a friend, but I can't find much about its safety. Any ideas?

Why don't you try Dr. G's or one of the over-the-counter nail fungus treatments such as Reclaim AF? Thymol is one of the ingredients in Vicks VapoRub, which is why it also has been known to work on nail fungus. Just apply the treatment of your choice to the exposed skin and let it wick under any areas of nail plate that remain. The nail 'fell off' because the fungal spores eat the proteins in the nail plate for 'food' and since the seal that binds the nail plate to the nail bed is mostly protein, that is why it separates from the nail bed. You will still need to treat teh exposed skin to be sure that all the fungal spores that remain deep within the skin are 'killed'. It can take upwards of a year to completely kill all the spores in the nail plate and the nail bed since they have so many places to hide.
