View Full Version : Coconut cure?

I've been having a bad bout of IBS for the past couple of days --- I've "gone" thirteen times in the past 48 hours. I've been taking dicyclomine. It didn't help. I told a friend about the IBS this morning and she said she'd heard that eating coconut macaroons will help stop the diarrhea. I went to our local market and couldn't get any macaroons, but did get a bag of shredded coconut. I've been munching on it for the past couple of hours, and not only has it relieved the gas symptoms but I haven't run to the loo since eating it. Interesting. I'd never heard of this before. I recommend it --- and I don't even like coconut.

Coconut acts as a binding agent. Banana is similar, so you could try that as well (although the natural sugar may or may not cause gas). It's actually good that you got the strait coconut instead of the macaroons because the extra sugar in those might have caused further irritation. Congrats on finding something natural that helps you! I love it when that happens. :)

I had a friend in college that swore by simple chicken, brown rice, and brocolli when her IBS put her in the bathroom repeatedly. She'd eat that for about 3 days straight and it would clear up.
