Vickie,

As far as you having them everyday,my guess would be because
you are not on any seizure meds. yet. If I had to be alone,I would
try and stay seated as much,or lay down.If I could have someone
around me often,then I would.But,with me,sometimes I am in the
house with others and they still cannot get to in time,if I were to
fall,unless I have a good aura before,in my case,I usually don't,especially
if it is drop attack.I have more auras if it is just a CP.

Be careful and take care.Hugs,Sherri

Vickie,

Unfortunately I cannot answer your question about how long
the medicine takes to start working because nothing has ever
really helped me much and they first put me on this when I was
only around 4 or 5 years old.I just always have to be careful the
few days before my period.Maybe you can start another thread
with that question.

I am glad that I have been able to help you :)

Take care,Sherri

I"ve always lived alone with the seizures. I just make sure I can get to a chair, my bed, or even the floor if I have to. I don't cook if I"m feeling weird, and no baths- only showers. When I feel the aura, I try to get to my as needed meds- if I can't I just get somewhere safe. And if there's time, to the bathroom before it starts. Then I just sleep it off. Not much else I can do. If I have several in a row without really snapping back to 'normal', I go to the hospital, but that's rare, and only if there have been several back to back with no real recovery time.

Get a medical alert necklace or bracelet (I prefer the necklace so nobody sees it- but EMTs and paramedics are likely to find it) for whenever you leave the house. I hate them, but it also has info on checking my wallet for my meds and other medical conditions.

It can be scary, but it's also somewhat easier for me, knowing that at home, nobody else sees me having seizures- I don't like that sense of vulnerability or the logistics of getting home if I'm with someone- I don't get combative, but extremely tired, and if I fall asleep, it's almost coma-like.

You can make adjustments at home to be there alone. Let your doc know that your spouse is going back to work and you'll be alone, just so he/she knows...((((((hugs))))))

You can ask your doctor to refer you to home health nurses- they come out various times/week, but you have someone to call.

Hopefully getting on meds will help. Sometimes it takes a few different meds to find one that works, so don't feel defeated if the first one doesn't do what you hoped.

I was in the hospital last week for headaches and complex partial seizures- probably had 13-15 in 4 1/2 days. I usually have 5-8/month, some at night. They sent me home after the worst day of 5-6 during the day and 3 at night. I did ok at home- still had a night seizure the first night, but the change in meds seems to be starting to kick in.

You might ask to be checked for some sort of infection (that's a big factor for me having more seizures than usual). Also, write down anything you remember, and what your husband sees (to take to the neuro). Witness statements are very important.

I know it's scary and frustrating. The home health nurses can be a great backup for when your husband has to work and your kids are in school (I'm 43,single, and just have a dog). If there's a neighbor who knows when your drapes/blinds are open or lights on, and can call or come over if something is different, that's also a help. I have no social contacts, so my neighbor across the parking lot (apt) is very helpful, but she's been in MN all summer.

Once you get on meds, and the seizures slow down, you'll feel better being alone. I actually prefer it, to having someone see me seize. But other than co-workers seeing seizures (and hospital people), I've always been alone with them, so my situation is different in that respect. I've had to learn to be very in tune with the auras or any 'funny feeling', and go lie down for safety. I also have medication for before seizures to help prevent runs of them and to shorten the post-ictal period. There are some great online education sites. The best treatment is education- read stuff like crazy, and be at least as informed about your diagnoses (when they figure it all out) as your PCP. :)

Hi Vickie,

Yes,if you can get your appt. sooner, than I definitely would.
One bad thing about being alone even if you try and sit and lay
down as much as possible is with you having the drop attack
seizures, you can possibly be out of it too long(which can cause
more brain damage).Where if someone was with you and seen that
you were out of it too long they could call an ambulance. My ex told
me that I had been out of it once for 30 minutes, and they say anything
past 10 minutes(they consider a status E. seizure)is very bad for you.

Take care,Sherri

Yeah, you can have your primary doc call and request a sooner appointment since this is going on daily and you're not on meds.

Most seizures are not dangerous, unless there's a risk of injury- that's why it's so important to get to a safe place as soon as you feel weird. I feel safest in my bed. BUT, constant seizures (that don't stop between them) can cause some damage. Fortunately, we all have a bunch of brain cells we don't use, so a few knocked off here and there isn't really that horrible. It sounds bad, but most seizures look worse than they really are to the body.

But since you're having them daily, I'd ask the primary doc to see about a sooner appointment ;)

ok can a seizure kill you ?? im just wondering because im just so scared but i called the dr and they said 3 weeks away isnt that long and my mom is going to come stay with me for a little bit and when kids go back to school i may have her stay with me till my appt cause i do not want to be alone but i might be fine cause once the seizure passes i either sleep or i just sit and relax .and hubby wants to wait because he wants to have enough money to come with me i will be in the hospital for 3 days and him and my kids are coming since its a 2 hr drive plus he wants a tuneup on the car to make sure we have no trouble going down there....and 3 weeks isnt that long since my mom has agreed to stay with me ...

to the vickie who is waiting to see the doctor hello my name is bevin some one who has suffered with a seizure disorder since the age of four (childhood). Just want to say that seizures are dangerous and can kill if left untreated .If you have any symptoms go immediately to the hospital er.seizure symptoms everday are nothing to wait on or let pass. It is dangerous to wait to see a doctor about a seizure problem because the longer the wait the more chance it can cause brain damage through lack of proper bloodflow and oxgen to brain. A neurologist really should try to find an anti seizure medicine that will work for you.
