View Full Version : Diabetic Eyes?

I'm having vision problems that consist of day to day very noticeable and frustrating changes in strength of one eye one day, the other eye the next. The Fourth of July, my left eye was so ridiculously screwed up, I called my opthalmologist. He was nice enough to meet me at his office on a holiday to make sure nothing was seriously wrong. On that particular day, the eye checked to have a marked change in astigmatism. It straightened up by the next day, but today as I write this, the vision in that eye is blurred and smeary just like it was on July 4th. He wants me to have a check for diabetes, though I have no other symptoms of it like profound thirst, urination, or anything. Do any of you have problems like this, and if so, have you been found to have diabetes? It does run on both sides of my family. This is getting unreal, and I feel I need about 4 pairs of glasses of varying strengths to cover the day to day variations in strengths of both eyes. Getting properly fitted is becoming more and more a challenge, depending on how each eye is doing.
Thanks

Diabetes can cause sudden changes in vision. Do you have any retinal problems?

Howdy, 'Purple'. Thanks for coming back to us here.
I don't "think" I've got any retinal problems. Years ago, when I was on a lot of antibiotics and was at a low ebb, I had some darkness come in my left eye. At the time, the opthalmologist called it a retinal infarction. I assume it bled a little. This was in the left eye, that acts dumb and dumber sometimes. I hardly ever see any shadows in it anymore. I really don't, as I sit here trying to notice it on the screen. Both eyes vary a tiny bit from day to day, but this thing on the 4th, and again yesterday, is pretty extreme for me. It's just great again today, and fine, like nothing ever happened! Weird. The changes seem to come overnight, as if in sleep, never during my waking hours. Makes me think it's a sleep type thing that governs how I'll be seeing the next day. Thanks again--

Tony
