I am a 31 year old male. A few months ago i noticed that inside my bellybutton, sort of the left side of it, there was a swollen lump. It does not appear to be discolored. When I feel it, it feels like fatty tissue, there is no hard center to it, and it is absolutely painless. It seems on one side of it there is a small red line, like an old scratch scar. I know I need to get it checked out, but I have a lot of anxiety about health related things, and I just wanted to see if anyone had an opinion or an experience with something like this. Could it be swollen from a previous infection? I always thought tumors were hard. I know its not a lymph node because we have no lymph nodes on our bellybuttons. I have frequent diarrhea for the past couple of years - could this be related? Any input would be welcome.

Hi there...

It sounds like it might be something called a 'lipoma'... your best bet is to have it checked out by your Dr just to be on the safe side.

what is a lipoma?

A lipoma is a benign fatty tumor and 99.999% of the time nothing needs to be done for them unless they are cosmetically unsightly or they become painful.

Check out the first sticky in this catagory and you can find more information.
