I wake up and my eyes are soo red and have gook in them..I have been to my doctor who gave me ocuflox thinking I had pink eye but it is not going away..could this be allergies? related to my contacts? my eyes are also very dry..they do itch occasionally but not too often..what else could this be?

The stringy discharge could be from the dryness. It could also be from allergies. Assuming that you saw an eye dr, go back and tell him/her that you are not feeling better. If you didn't see an eye dr, you should probably go to one for a diagnosis.

Stringy discharge is comprised of dried mucus. This is indicative of allergy or immune reaction. Judging from the prescription of ocuflox I can see that you went to a primary care doctor and not an eye doctor. Ocuflox is only indicated for bacterial infection. This would present with pus and not stringy mucus. If you are sleeping with contacts; STOP! It is amazing how often a patient will arrive at my office with days to weeks of eye discomfort and pain only to admit that they have been sleeping in contacts all along and had no clue that that was causing it. If you are sleeping in contacts; THAT'S THE PROBLEM! Ophthalmologists are traditionally more rushed and less likely to creatively treat a minor problem like yours, you might try a younger Optometrist as they usuall deal more often with stuff like this.
