Are there certain categories/types of moles? I know moles look different in terms of size, shape, being uniform, flat or raised, etc. Which ones should get removed?

You really should have a doctor take a look at all but generally speaking those with uneven edges and/or uneven color and those that get rubbed by clothing should all be removed.

In addition to what the other poster said, any moles that bleed, itch, hurt or ooze any substance should be removed and biopsied. But, like the other poster said, you should get into the habit of visiting a dermatologist yearly to just have a quick, easy and painless exam. Anything that looks abnormal to the doctor will be removed with your permission and biopsied for any abnormalities.
