DS is 8 months old and is developing an interest in feeding himself. Do you have any suggestions for food that I can give him to fee himself?

he still doesn't have any teeth.

Thanks,

My son is just about 9 months and still no teeth as well. He has been self feeding for quite some time. I give him cheese, Gerber puffs, Gerber dried fruits, Gerber cereal bars (break them into bits- thank goodness for Gerber!) tiny bits of bananas, and pieces of wheat toast or bread. I also will mircowave a wheat pancake and break it into tiny pieces. Lately it seems like he likes finger foods better than jarred foods.

Oh, and I can't forget the Zwieback toast - he really like those!

DS has been self feeding for a while, he is now 10mos.

he likes macaroni and cheese, macaroni and crushed tomatos, I give him small (pea sized) pieces of fresh fruit (honeydew, cantelope, watermellon)

small pieces of canned fruit (papya, mango, pears, peaches)

gerber puffs

toast with cream cheese on it, shredded cheese, small pieces of lunchmeat

sometimes I make grilled cheese and ham and cut it into small pieces for him

he loves steamed carrots, small bits of potato.

he eats pretty much what I eat, I just make sure it is soft and really small.

he is just cutting his first tooth...

i started both of mine on cheerios around 7 months and they both loved them! i think the hardness of the cheerios feels good on their gums...

they also ate...
(just add "cut very small" where applicable!)

peas
corn
green beans
broccoli florets
cooked carrots
grilled chicken
vienna sausages
cheese cubes
cooked apple
sweet potatoes
kidney beans (you may want to half them)
pinto beans
pasta shells (the tiny ones are great!)

like the PP said, my two started eating a lot of what i was eating as long as it was small and easily mushable! we experimented with a lot of other stuff, and they liked a lot of other stuff, but what i listed are the foods that are the most convenient for us, and seemed to be the easiest for my girls to eat.

my dd just turned 8 mos. and i was also wondering about finger foods but most of the labels on products suggest 12 mos or older so i've been hesitant about giving these to her.

The other suggestions here are great, so I won't reiterate those. I just wanted to also add shredded cheese.

We like couscous (very easy and fast to prepare), any kind of boiled veggies, and choped fruit like peaches and pears
