Hi there,

I need advice / reasurrance etc. My mum awoke in the middle of yesterday night to find the whole white part of her right eye is completely bright red / bloody looking. No white visable. It isn't bloodshot. It's bright red. She was shocked to wake up to this. Anyway, yesterday evening we called the health care 24 help line here in the UK... they said a blood vessel burst due to eye strain, and it will clear up on it's own. But any pain, she must called the doctor straight away.

Mum claims there is no pain there, however she is aware of it... which makes sense to me.

Anyway, I would like to hear from other people who have experienced this or known people who have for any extra advice and reasurrance.

Mum is trying to rest it as much as possible incase of any extra added strain.

I hope someone responds to this thread, would be very much appreciated. I know she is quite worried!

Thank you.

If it is just a broken blood vessel then there really isn't anything she can do about it. It should clear up on its own. But if it begins to become painful, then she needs to go to the doctor right away. However, if it is just red with no sort of discharge or bad discomfort, I think they are probably right about it just being a broken blood vessel.

My gran recently had the same thing. It was pretty horrific to look at. It cleared up afetr a few days on it own http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

She was told that it can be quite common as you get older. There is no health risk at all ~ it looks bad but is nothing to worry about http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

Hope this helps to put your mind at rest!
