I have what might be a really stupid question about seizures. Can you have seizures for awhile and then have them just go away on their own?
A little background: When I was a teenager (a pretty stupid teenager), I started having episodes where my vision would go all staticky and I'd have electrical tinglingness all over my body and afterwards, the back of my head felt like it was going to fall off for a few minutes and I'd feel different mentally afterwards. I had enough control over what I was doing so, as far as I know, no one ever knew anything was happening - I mostly stood still, sometimes sat down - during. This continued for awhile and I had myself convinced it was just head rush, since it usually happened after I stretched. Once in a while it happened when I was walking or something. Then, when I was around 22 or so (fuzzy memory, sorry--I'm 30 now, btw) I had a seizure in the shower. Fuzzy vision, fell down, tingly, the works. After that, the staticky vision and so forth happened less and less often and hasn't happened now in at least 3 years.
I don't really know that those episodes were actually seizures, since I was really stupid about it and never told anyone, so I never saw a doctor about any of this.
Anyway, thanks for any info anyone shares with me.

Hi! Yes, they certainly sound like they were seizures. My 15 year old son started having absence-type seizures about 3 years ago and we have tried every natural product or diet we can think of or find on the internet to help him, not to mention all the different doctors we've been to! Also, 3 women in the large office where I work each have a child with seizures and one of those kids has outgrown his seizures at the age of 21. From what her doctor told her, lots of seizures are triggered by puberty and if they're going to be outgrown it usually doesn't happen until after the second hormonal growth surge. (I didn't even know we had two growth surges!)
So yes, it does sound like you are one of the lucky ones who outgrew her seizures! Not that this is sound medical advice or anything, just my humble opinion!
Take Care,

Thanks for the info. I could have used these boards when it started. I was terrified when they started happening. I really hope you're right and I've outgrown them and that they never come back.
Thanks again! :)

Tell the doc and get an EEG done, just so you know- you don't want to be somewhere, and have a 'falling down one' and have someone think you're drunk or on drugs. It's important to get the right diagnoses and medication :)

Are you sure that's necessary? I did the math and it's been more like 4-5 years since anything's happened. I know that because my son is 3 years old and it had been a while before I got pregnant that had one of those episodes.
I really don't like going to the doctor if I don't have to, and when I do, my husband gets this attitude like I'm taking up his valuable time because he has to watch the kids when I do and I really don't like dealing with his attitude. He actually told me once that he didn't want to go see the doctor unless he was dying and seemed to think I should do the same.

You really should go to the doctor and just get it all check out.
I'm sorry but your husband seems a little ignorant, I mean no offence but he would have to look after the kids a whole lot more if you got worse because you did nothing.
It's better to be checked out and be sure than to just leave it.

Ok, I'll go ahead and contact my doctors office and see what they say.
I can't really blame it all on my husband, I hate going in to see the doctor :( I guess I'm a little overly worried they'll find something horribly wrong with me, you know?

Hi
The answer is yes seizures can just suddenly go away.I have to say though just because it has been 4-5 yrs since you had one of these things does not mean it wont rear its ugly head again......although I certainly hope ,for you, that it wont.I personally have experianced what I believe to be a type of seizure, but never diagnosed as seizures all test always came back normal.Doctors have always told me "anxiety/stress" which I do have generalized anxiety disorder but I believe im told "anxiety/stress" because my tests always come back normal.Anyway the first seizure was almost 15 yrs ago.I felt a bit dizzy and sick to my stomach sat down and it all got much worse and out I went.I would stay unconscious for 3 to 5 mins and afterwards id feel really HORRIBLE for a while.Witnesses said I was as pale as a ghost,my eyes rolled back, and I was stiff. So on with the neurologist and testing like I said all normal.Anyway,so 5 or so yrs goes by no problems with this..then suddenly one day comming out of my bathroom here it goes again ..I had a few more within about 2 yrs time and now I havent had any for almost 6 yrs.I dont know if I will ever get diagnosed and no doctor has ever mentioned any medication.I have taken medications for anxiety before though..Anyways, just wanted to share some of my story and yes please make sure you get checked out have an EEG done maybe yours (if its seizures) will show up.....and I hope you will be free of these things for good!

Better to have the answers, and get on medication, for your safety and your sons'. It may be that they don't bother you again, but it it is epilepsy (and it may be migraines (some don't have pain- I learned quite unexpectedly), or something else), but it's better to know. :)

Yes, I have to agree. Seizures may go away for awhile, but that doesn't mean that you are completely cured. I've had seizures disappear for many years, and then all of a sudden get them back. I really can't say what triggers my seizures. The medication helps control them but it does not cure the seizures. My doctor almost was able to perform surgery to cure me, but he found that the seizures spread too much.:bouncing:
