I was recently diagnosed with DRY MACULAR DEGENERATION.

Is there anyone out there who has been diagnosed with MACULAR DEGENERATION in their late 40's or younger?

If so how many years were you given before your eyesight will begin to deteriorate to the point that it will be a handicap.

Thanks. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/confused.gif

I was diagnosed with dry mac degen when I was 49. I am now 55 and I have recently gone on disability.
I think the loss of vision can start at any time or even not start at all.
I was told that someone in my family must have had this, but there is no one that I know of that had this.
I am sure that your m.d. told you to take vitamins, this seems. at this time. to be the only treatment.

I was told when I was 30 I had dry MD. I'm 48 now. My left eye is getting pretty bad. But recent eye dr. visit revealed dry MD is also in my right eye. I'm several years away from retirement, and fear I may have to put in for disability within the next ten years.

Pretty scary!
