I just came home from my follow-up and the Doctor said everything looked good. My cervix is healing up nicely and the spotting I had was OK. She did however schedule me for an ultrasound this Friday. I have been having right side lower abdominal pain again. I have had complex cysts since last year, and even though they were painful, I just wanted to get past this Cervix scare so I just had to put it aside. Now I am hurting again and during my exam today (which was so uplifting to hear everything looked good!) she felt around and said my right ovary seems to be enlarged. Does anyone know if the HPV that causes the Cervical cancer or the complex ovarian cysts can do anything to the ovaries? Just looking for some info hear. I won't jump to any conclusions until I hear the ultrasound report from the Doctor.

No I was told HPV does not effect the ovaries it can only affect the surface of the cervix....as I was thinking the same thing!!!

This is what the nurse told me about 6months ago but I would have chat with you doctor for piece of mind if you're worried.

Glad eveything looks good though..thats great!

Hi there AM,

I'm no physician or medical student, but I have never heard or read any correlation between HPV and enlarged ovaries. I know that during our annual exams when the doctors feel around the inside with one hand and their other hand presses down on your lower abdomen, this is to check for swelling or tenderness in the uterus, ovaries, etc. This has nothing to do with HPV, however. I know that high risk HPV only alters the cells on the OUTER layer of the cervix at first, then if left untreated for years, it could potentially go from pre-cancerous outer layer cells to invasive cancer.

I'd ask your doctor what causes enlarged ovaries, though. It's best to know everything about all the changes going on in your body. Sometimes docs aren't very forthcoming with their information and you have to really pull it out of them-- this is probably due to the limited amount of time we get with them, anyway. Ahhh I just love the US' healthcare system! :p

Ok, well that answered my question, thank you very much for your insight. At least I feel like I am over one herdle for now. I will have my first follow-up pap in six weeks. I am feeling quite confident that things will work out, or at least I am telling myself that while I wait ;) . Enlarged ovaries, what would that be from? I do have some past history of complex ovarian cysts...maybe that has something to do with it? The doctor told me that the complex cysts differ than the other kind (I forget the term off-hand), because they bleed and cause extra pain. Great. If anyone else has this problem too, what did you do to ease the pain from it? What makes them go away?

On a side note:

I am so thankful for you all being here. I was really feeling down and started searching for some information of post-op LEEP and found this site. Ever since, I've read so much, written some and responded to so much. At first I was thinking "I know it is stupid, but I kinda like it" and within like a day, I was like "this is great, I am not alone" and immediately began to feel so much better.

Ok, I'm done being all mushy now...I'll keep you posted on the ultrasound if
you are interested and the pap results.
