Hello everyone,

I just joined today, and so far I am happy to have located a place where there is a bevy of information. I have a major problem with my big toe nail and left foot. I am over 30 yrs old and have a weak immune system[ (born with a weak system). Year 2000 I was helping to move a piano when the person let it go twice, and the corner of the piano landed on my big toe. I was in so much pain I saw colors (literally). It bled, was swollen, and the toenail gradually lifted. 2-weeks later, i was in the back seat of a very cramped car, and put my aching toe in the metal shaft of the rail in which the passenger seat slides back and forth. The passenger needed more room, and without notice, released the seat so that it would slide back, and it did, right on my toe.
The bleeding was bad, the nail barely hung on, I was literally in shock from so much trauma. In 2006, I was frequenting the gym (barefoot)
where I got athletes foot. The sides of my feet actually have cracked, and are scaly and hurt (YUCK). I have no insurance, and am left with a horribly deformed black toenail (it grows in that way), and a bad case of athletes foot. I use to receive several compliments on how pretty my feet & toes were, and now I worry that I have to live in shame like this. It is 100 degrees where I live, and while others wear sandals, I wear close toed shoes. They can put a man on the moon, but is there a cure for my ugly toe and feet? Can anyone suggest anything (effective) to improve my situation? Please help!

Thank you, thank you, and....THANK YOU in advance

You can use an over-the-counter medication for athletes foot (which is a form of fungus), or you can go to your doctor for prescription medication. If the nail is still growing in 'black', you may also have either a fungus or bacterial infection under whatever is left of the nail plate. Either way, your best bet is to suck it up and go see your doctor, dermatologist or podiatrist.

Thank you VERY much! I will suck it up, and go. Many thanks!
I may have posted this problem twice, in different locations. I apologize for this.
