I have such a strong feeling that the specialist I see this coming Monday is going to diagnose me with Migraine Associated Vertigo. I just have this feeling (especially after the horrific migraine attack I had last night, and the swaying I feel today). :(

Anyway, I just wanted to get a quick list of the different migraine meds that all of you have tried - which one's you like, which one's you didn't like, etc. Hbep, Scott, Howie? I know I've seen this info before but I thought I would just start a new thread rather than jump around looking for all of the various names. Thanks to all of you MAV'ers for your help.

I have only taken Verapamil and I am at 100% for I would say at least 6 months.....One minor side effect that is minimal at best and and not positive if the Verapamil has caused that side effect...

i am taking Topamax right now for my migraines,
and so far, it's working alright.
i don't know how many medicines i've tried, but this one's the best.
i'm still having migraines, but they're a lot less painful and a lot
less frequent then they used to be.


i'm so sorry to hear about your migraine attack,
those are horrible, i used to get them ALL the time.
i'm hoping your diagnosis is a good one!

I also read an article about Serena Williams (Tennis) having horrible menstrual migraines and she started taking Frova that I may consider taking. She said it was also causing a lot of dizziness when she would get hit with a migraine. You can search on the internet "serena williams migraine" and read the results - they are pretty interesting. I take propranonol, a beta blocker. I didn't have much luck with the other drugs I tried and I tried a few, but everyone is so different it's impossible to say what is going to work for you. Propranonol is often one of the first ones they try as it has a lower side effect profile.

Often it's a case of trial and error before you find the right one. Don't despair if the first one you try doesn't work, there are many others. If you are sensitive to drugs try asking to start with a low dose and then slowly go up on the dose. My symptoms are controlled a lot with a very small dose.
