My 2 week old started having green mucusy poop. I have an infection from my c-section and just started an antibiotic, but there was a hint of green and mucus in his poop at the doctor's office before I started the meds. What could this be from? I was told the meds may give him diarhea, but what if its something else? I am nursing my toddler as well and thought I should put my infant on the side my toddler didn't nurse on. Maybe he's getting too much foremilk? I'm calling the doc tomorrow but wanted some input today.

Hi
my little boy also experienced this last week and I have visited my health visitor today and explained it to her and she says that it was nothing to worry about and could be caused by wind and colicky babies sometimes have green poos (strange, but true).
Hope it clears up for you soon and you are feeling better.

when my youngest was getting too much foremilk, she had green poop like you describe...
but she was two or two an a half months old by then...
BUT, if you are nursing a toddler, i assume you're producing a lot more milk than your two week old can handle, which means a lot more foremilk (great for a toddler, probably not so much for a two week old).
you might try pumping for your infant - drain the whole breast and then divide the milk into smaller bottles for him... that way there's a good mix of fore/hindmilk... see if that doesn't clear it up???
this is just theory based on what makes sense according to my own experience... i'm certainly not an "expert!"
either way, i'd definitely check with a lactation consultant or your babies doctor or both (sometimes the doctors aren't all that familiar with the woes of breastfeeding though!). :)

I was told the green mucus-y poop was the bilirubin being excreted (so it was a good thing). Newborns get excess bilirubin (some more than others and need a lamp) and breast fed babies can take a couple weeks to excrete it all.

Thanks for the info. I do think it has to do with foremilk. I have been keeping him nursing on one side only or putting him on the side my son nursed from so he gets more hindmilk. His poop is still green, but looks much better now. My toddler is nursing so much right now since the baby came so I know I am producing lots of milk. I hope he doesn't nurse like this for much longer. I'll have enough to go around the neighborhood. lol
