So, my baby has almost outgrown her infant car seat and I have a question about convertible ones. May be a silly question, but do they stay in the car or are they transferrable from one car to another like the infant ones. Now, we have two bases and one car seat we move between cars. Do the convertible ones work the same way or are they permanent, meaning I'll have to get one for my car and one for my dh's car?
Any recommendations on convertible car seats by the way?
Thanks.

From my knowledge, you will have to buy two separate carseats once you move out of the infant carrier. There is no base with the convertible carseat. Convertible only means that you'll be able to use if rear-facing and then forward facing when your baby is ready to turn forward. That's when your baby is one year old AND weighs 20 pounds. Not either/or. The child must be both to face forward.
But the answer to your original question...if you plan on putting the child into two separate cars, and you don't want to change the carseat everytime, then you'll need two separate carseats. This is what we did when I worked and my husband took my daughter to the sitter and I picked her up.

You can transfer the car seat between cars. Whenever grandparents take her etc.. we just take out our carseat and give it to them. Now we only have one car so that's the only time we need to switch. It might be easier for you down the road to get two if you find it hard but I think one will be just fine at least for now. Sherri :)

The convertible seat is a cinch to hook in, so I woulnd't think it would really be necessary to get 2.

i think it would depend on how often you and your husband drive your baby around. if she rides with you most of the time, and your husband only occasionally, then i'd only get one. if you guys switch off a lot, it might be worth getting two.
my only concern here is that if you only have one seat and ya'll switch a lot, if you are running late and are rushing with her out to the car, and oh look there's the car seat sitting by your car because your husband had it last but didn't have time to strap it into your car (my husband does that to me a lot!), and because you are running late, and you're annoyed with hubby because this is the fifth time this week he has done this to you, you don't spend that extra couple of seconds making sure the seat is put in right, or tightening the seat down all the way, or making sure the seat belt buckle clicked all the way, or whatever..... it just makes it that much more likely that she could get hurt if you are in a car accident... does that make sense?
SOOO, if she primarily rides in your car, and only occasionally with your husband, i'd definitely stick with one. if ya'll divide the time pretty equally, then it might be worth getting two. just FYI, we got the COSCO brand $50 one from target, and they've always worked great! :)
