My two year old DD has these sores all over her mouth. I noticed the other morning when she woke up so I gave her tons of liquids thinking it was dehydration. But they never went away. Yesterday I took her to the doctor who told me it was virul and to just give her something cold to numb her mouth so she can eat.
Well, the issue isn't with her eating its the fact they the sores are there and the doc never gave me anything to give her. I feel so sorry for the poor thing her lips inside are full of white little sores. Does anyone know if there is anything I can put on them or give her? Help!!!

If you can make sure she will spit this out and not swallow it this mixture will help.. Mix equal parts of Liquid benadrly and Malloxx together every few hours have her take some in her mouth and swish it around for a minute or so then spit it all out and don't rinse, The benadrly helps clear the virus up and the malloxx is soothing and coats.

the doctor didn't say if it was thrush? that is what it sounds like... if it is, i believe she needs to get on nystatin(sp?) to get rid of it. that's what they did to my kids anyway...

the only other thing is when my daughter started using oral-b stages princess toothpaste, she had some kind of reaction to it and it gave her some pretty big fever blister looking sores. it took us awhile to figure that one out, but as soon as we quit using the toothpaste, the sores started to heal.

but on reading your post again, it really sounds more like thrush. is there an urgent care clinic nearby that you can see? it would definitely be worth getting a second opinion!

Could also be hand, foot, mouth disease. That's common in little ones. It's one of those..."has to run it's course" things though.

Yes, it does sound like thrush, a form of yeast infection. (Yes, yeast can grow in places other than the genitals. Basically, the conditions for its growth are: warmth, heat, and moisture -- so the digestive tract qualifies -- and its favorite "food" is SUGAR from milk, carb-rich foods, etc.) My sister's baby had it, and the only doctor who correctly diagnosed it was a pediatric allergy specialist. Unfortunately, she had to pay out-of-pocket, but it was worth it to have her child correctly diagnosed. Good luck. Hope this helps and that your baby gets better soon.

I agree - it could be hand, foot and mouth disease . . . it's just like a week long viral illness. No big deal. Check the bottoms of her feet and the palms of her hands and her tush for tiny little red or white dots or bumps.

It can also be caused from vitiman deficency which is easily solved by changing diet habits and also by a vitamin called Lysine. Ask your doctor before giving it to her - because I'm not sure of the recommended age.

Sores can also be caused by simple colds or as a reaction to a virus within the body. my son and I both get sores inside our mouth when we are sick and it hurts so bad to eat. Orajel lasts long - but burns on contact for about twenty seconds. I know that's difficult with a 2 year old! The benadrly and malaox solution does work - ask your doctor if it's safe for toddlers. I know benedryl is. I'm not sure about Maalox.

If it is foot and mouth disease the only thing you can do is to treat the symptoms. Our pediatrician gave us the recipe to a little cocktail of medicines that temporarily numb the mouth and throat so that you child will bea able to eat without pain. It is 1/2 a tsp of Maalox (the regular adult kind) and 1/4 tsp of Benadryl. My son did not seem to mind it. The sores will go away on thier own since it is a virus. Good luck.
