Anyone in this world that has a cure or knows what the cause is for this let me know. I've had it with this condition. No one anywhere can relate, so far. I've been every where, and researched every avenue Known to man. Every morning upon wakening my eyelids, are thick and wrinkly and swollen and droopy. It's as though they just grew excessive skin in the P.M. It's a long and time consuming process to just get a little of the swelling down so to apply some make-up to go to work. No-o-o-o-o, I'm not allergic, to the make-up 10 years, of research and changing cosmetics says no. When it's time to get ready for bed is when the swelling is down and gone. Who gives a crap then, I need to look normal in the day time. If someone knows anything about this please contact me, mandmpoteat@yahoo.com. Marilyn

Could this be an allergy to your bedding? I am allergic to feathers and every morning would wake up with swollen, puffy eyes. I would have to put cold packs on my eyes just to get them open. Finally went to an allergist and found out my feather pillow and down quilt were the problem. As I can't sleep without them I purchased an allergy cover for the quilt and pillow. They're not cheap - I think the cover for the quilt was around $200 but it worked. I saw results the first night after putting up with it for years. Because your puffy eyes are better by evening it sounds like an allergy to me - I had the same thing.
If you don't have a feather allergy it could be something else in your room or bedding that you're allergic to.

I can't be sure if that's the case. Even if I sleep at someone else's home or a motel/hotel, it is the same thing. I don't sleep with feathers, I think our pillows and comforters are filled with batting and foam or just cotton filling. Anyways, I moved to a brand new home just 31/2 years ago, and still it's the same thing. No, I'm not allergic to my husband, I just got him, like eight years ago. Also, I can sleep on our couch, and the same thing happens only sometimes when I sleep on the couch it doesn't happen as bad. This is really a puzzle, I spend so-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-much time and effort trying to find the fix, and the cure, it makes me sick. When my eyes are cleared of these symptoms I look good and feel good, then for the most of the time I think I look way older than I should & it really bothers me terribly. HELP!!!!! Oh Thanks for replying I do appreciate, any ideas. Marilyn mandmpoteat@yahoo.com you can contact me anytime.

It could even be an allergy to dust mites - which are everywhere. That is another thing I am allergic to. I had to get a cover for the mattress, the duvet and the pillows. If I am away from home I get the puffy eyes back even if I'm not using a feather pillow in a hotel because there are dust mites everywhere. The allergy covers work but you have to cover everything including the mattress. I know it sounds like a huge expense but believe me it was worth every cent. I had these puffy eyes for years until I got the covers.

Last night I was thinking back to when I was a child and how I had to stay in an oxygen tint, because I had pneumonia all the time from birth. I spent about seven years on an off in this tint. Also, I started remembering that my mother put my pillow in a zippered plastic bag, before putting it into a pillow case. All this stuff didn't start with my eyes until about 9-10 years ago an I've become obsessed with trying to figure out what causes it. No one and believe me I've talked to thousands of people about it professionals, eye docs, allergists, friends and none of them have ever heard of the problem???????? Well......I say,"I must be a freak".....So-o-o-o-o I'm bound and determined to get a cure and find out what causes this. Thanks So Much for responding, I'm taking your advice, it made me think back to being a very sick little girl, and the care that Mom, gave to me.

I'm not a dr but this just sounds so like what I had. I would have to put ice packs on my eyes in the morning to get the swelling down. The covers that you buy for the mattress, duvet etc have almost like a rubber feel to them so no dust or anything can get through. I bought the pillow and mattress cover at Linens n Things and the duvet cover at a special store that sells allergy/medical supplies - think it was a pharmacy. Just make sure the label says it's for allergies - not just a cover to keep the bedding clean. As I said I got results the very first night. No more puffy eyes. I didn't have this when I was young - just developed it about 10 years ago and thought it was an allergy to something I ate. I always take my own pillow now on vacation and that helps but find I still get the puffy eyes a bit and it's probably from the mattress/blankets that aren't covered in a hotel.

Crutches: You, just sound so-o--o-o-o sweet and nice. You are the only one so far on this message board that has replied, to my message. I am going to try everything that you have suggested. By, the way I didn't have this condition when I was young either, or rather younger than I am now, mine also started like around 10 years ago, and now I'm 49 years young, and it's just been a-whole lot of trouble to contend with, I'd like for the next 10 years to be less troublesome.
Thanks for all that you have written and advised me of this week-end I'm going to try to get some of these things while out shopping. Later; Marilyn

My allergist told me he could give me all the allergy shots/medication in the world but that if I didn't cover the bedding none of the other stuff will work. So I finally spent the $$ and did it and don't even use allergy medication anymore. It was the bedding for sure. By the end of the day the allergy medication etc would be working and the puffiness would be better and then in the morning it would be back again. By the way, we're the same age - could be an age related thing? Good Luck.

Hi! Do you sleep on your stomach?
Sleeping on your stomach can cause swollen eyelids and bags under the eyes in the morning (gravity).
You mentioned that it is less when you sleep on the couch, so I am wondering if you sleep on your stomach?
