I asked around for info and someone said my daughter (15 years old, Caucasian) may have a sun/light allergy. She gets sick (dizzy, nauseated) around both fake light and sunlight sometimes and can't handle bright lights without almost immiedately getting bad headaches. She gets completely sunburned when she goes in the sun. Usually give her about two hours and a bad sunburn will start showing and sometimes it would last more than a week. So bad she wouldn't be able to wear clothes. She's also gotten water blisters. She doesn't go out in the sun without long jeans and a long sleeved hoodie now and she rarely goes out so she hasn't gotten sunburned this summer. But my daughter is also very pale. Even after the worst sunburns, she doesn't tan. Someone said she could have something like PMLE aka Polymorphous light eruption or Actinic prurigo (hereditary PMLE). We have a bit of Cherokee Native American. How do I tell the difference between sunburn and a sun allergy. Should she see a doctor? If you need anymore info, just ask.

I would carry her to the Dr.! Mention lupus to the Dr. If they say "No, she doesn't have that". Tell them you want your daughter to be cheked for that anyway. But, go to a homeopathic allergy Dr.

I have lupus and the sun or ultraviolet lights triggers lupus. It is a form of arthritis (I know, doesn't make sense). But, sunlight triggers it. It affects not only your joints but skin, organs, muscles (every body part). It can be serious. But, the medicines that will be given for lupus can be serious drugs. Most Dr's do not know how to help a patient avoid problems. They just know how to give medicines to help with the problems. So, do not go to a artritis Dr. You need a homeopathic allergy Dr.

When I was much younger, I would lay out in the sun and get a great tan. Then, one day, our family made a trip to the Gulf to play in the water. Within minutes, my body burned (my first sunburn ever!), welps came up and my eyes swelled so much they were almost shut. This was the beginning of problems. My heart almost shut down by the time I was early 30's. My allergies were totally messed up. I had severe headaches. The Dr. had me undergo an MRI to see if I was having strokes. This goes with Lupus. But, nothing showed up. I asked my Dr. if the headaches could be caused from my allergies and she told me nobody got headaches from allergies (sinus headache? ) So, I started questioning what the Dr. was doing. I made an appointment with an allergy Dr. that also practiced homeopathic medicine. Within a week, I had no more headaches and was off the medicines my regular Dr. had me on. He told me that allergies can trigger lupus. So, by getting my allergies under control, avoiding the sun (I wear Solumbra clothing and one of their hats...always..). The Dr. put me on Country Life Magnesium/Potassium aspartate (1 pill 2x a day) and Nature's Plus sustained release Super C Complex, 1000 mg. (1 pill 2 x a day), no other vitamins and a vegan diet (no dairy, eggs or animal products...includes meat).
Like I said, within a week I felt fine. This was over 25 years ago. I still have allergies. He put me on Nasalchrome (2 squirts 2x a day). You cannot skip a dose or there can be problems. I rarely have to take anything for allergies now except for the Nasalchrome (still on it and will always be on it). My biggest thing is to avoid the sun/flourescent lights and to not eat anything that I'm allergic to. And, thatis my biggest problem...food I'm allergic to. I'm allergic to corn, dairy, eggs, any animal products (includes meat), yeast, sulphur and celiac foods. I can eat rice and vegetables. The best bet is to find out what your daughter is allergic to and then avoid those foods or environmental items, wear Solumbra clothing and avoid the sun/flourescent lights as much as possible. Even if she doesn't have lupus (which I bet she does), she still needs to avoid the sun if it gives her problems. I love to garden. So, I wear the Solumbra clothing and garden either early in the morning before the sun comes up or late at night or during a rain. I also garden either in the shade or in a Solar Prism greenhouse. This greenhouse blocks the ultraviolet rays and doesn't bother me to be in. I have mine set in the shade. It gets too hot to grow plants in the sunlight. So, a person can still do things they want to...just use precautions and sometimes do things differently.
