Hi! So I recently started working out again to get back in shape and I have been doing the Leslie Sansone videos. I do the 1 mile jog and then the 3 mile walk. I do this about every other day, sometimes try and squeeze in an extra day or two.
Well I had been doing it for 2 or 3 weeks, with no problems then I stopped for about a week, cus I had some major family stuff going on. Now I am experiencing horrible ankle pains! They are slightly swollen and tender to the touch and to walk on. They are also a bit bruised. I started the exercise program back up today, thinking it might help to loosen them back up, but the pain only subsided a little while I was working out and now afterwards, it is back.
I've never been a big runner, so I was wondering if I should just stick to the walking? I want to burn as many calories as possible, and it sucks to think that I can't run a lousy mile without pain! Does anyone know what is up with my ankles?

If they're sore to the touch you have some kind of damage. try icing them, maybe take ibuprofin for a couple of days to reduce swelling, and let them recover before you get back into a routine. Just go slow. You may have gone in with a bit too much too fast and your bits and pieces like tendons and ligaments in the ankles aren't conditioned enough for that much movement just yet. Start with 1 or 2 miles for a week or two and ramp it up every couple of weeks as long as the injury doesn't get worse.

Thank you! I have been resting them for a few days. They are feeling much better now. I think I should also invest in some better footwear, with more support. Maybe that will help prevent it from happening again.

Sounds like a good idea. :)
