View Full Version : diverticulitis again?

In May I had a bout with what the doctor thought might be diverticulitis - I had some fever, mild pain in my lower left abdomen and some constipation (ribbon like). I took an antibiotic and when it was over still had a little discomfort - they did a ct scan and saw nothing abnormal.

I have continued to have an occassional twinge, but in the meantime I had a colonoscopy (my five year one) and except for a diverticulosis was fine. My GP decided that my twinge in my left side must be muscular,

So yesterday I was feeling fine, then suddenly I start to get a fever that peaked at a little over 101 - I had a headache, little dizziness - my left side was a little more twingy than usual, but not really painful. Otherwise I was asymtomatic. This morning I have no fever but my back is a little sore and my left side is mildly twingey.

Could this be another attack of diverticulitis? Would it present itself without much pain? I have been so careful since the attack to eat plenty of fiber, and to not eat seeds, etc. What should I look for? I am leaving out of town on Thursday and I will not be too near any doctors the following week, so I am trying to decide how to deal with this.

Well it does sound like a mild attack of diverticulitis. When I get an attack it is much more painfull, but the symptoms sound similiar. My Dr. advises me to cut out all fiber when I'm having an attack and stick to soft foods. Eggs ,puddings, clear broths etc untill the pain subsides. He also gives me antibiotics and belladonna for the spasms in my colon. So to be on the safe side you may want to stick to a soft food diet for a few days as not to aggravate the flare up... Kate

I didn't have any pain with my first pout of diverticulitis and I had a perforation with that. I had some "funny" feelings--almost a little like cramps. I did have the fever and feeling of just not feeling good.

Better check with your doctor before you leave--you don't want any complications.
