I didn't know that sleep aids made you gain weight. I have problems sleeping at night too. Do you sleep during the day? Is it your meds that keep you awake?

Hi

I'm on an antidepressant called Parnate, which is an old a/d, but the only one that has worked for me so far and on Solian, these could have different names in the U.S, I'm not sure, but I take Seroquel at night to help me sleep and in the middle of the night I wake up starving and just eat and eat, I have gained 30 Kg, but I can't sleep if I don't take Seroquel. I've been on Zyprexa before and slept great as well, but the weight gain was just way too much, so I had to go off it. I just want to be able to sleep and be well, without getting so overweight, I never had weight issues at all before starting my meds and it gets me so down........................

Hi Munchie,
My anti-dep (Mirtazapine) totally knocks me out so has to be taken at night just before bed due to it's sedatory effect. No need for extra sleep meds. Have you tried it?

I have had the same problem. I tried everything and nothing seemed to work. I recently tried Melatonin. The first night, I tried 1 pill and it really helped me get to sleep, but I didn't stay asleep long. The next night, I tried 2 pills with the same luck. You might want to give it a try. I didn't have any side effects or groggyness in the morning. I think there are other threads on this site about Melatonin. You might want to check them out as well.
