In answer to both your questions, YES! Seiz. alone can cause headaches and upset stomach with or without diharea or you may be like me and have a migraine/seiz. link. If I start to feel a migraine coming on (which can cause the upset stomach before onset or during) I immediately take 40mg. Relpax. If I cannot take within a few minutes of feeling onset I will generally have a seiz. Usually a petitmal. If I have a gran mal I always have a horrible migraine, stomach upset afterward. What is odd tho, if I feel the headache coming on it's on the right side. If I have no warning other than the granmal I always feel the pain on the left side after I start to come to. I have told my doc. this and he has no explaination. I have had multiple MRIs and catscans (most recent was 2 months ago) and have found nothing that way.
Also different migraines meds. work for different people just as seiz. meds work differently. My husband takes Imitrex which doesn't work for me and I have a friend who takes Zomig which also doesn't work for me. Relpax doesn't work for either of them.
Hope this helps. Good luck, Laura

Hi Vickie,
Yes,I also have headaches(not migraines)on days that I am having
seizures.I have never had problems with my stomach though on days
of my seizures. Please be careful, until you get to that hospital.
As far as my headaches,I do not have them every time I have seizures,
but,I will have them sometimes. From what my family members tell me,I
should very thankful that they are not migraines.
Take care,Sherri

Hi Vickie,
I'll say a prayer for you  And yes, keep us informed.
You are more than welcome for all the info.Glad I could
be of help. :) I was just diagnosed with anxiety disorder today,
I guess that is why when my neuro. put me on Ativan it made
me feel so wonderful.Even though anxiety can cause seizures
sometimes, unfortunately I know that is not my case with the E.
because it shows up on my EEG reports.
Take care,Sherri

I almost always have headaches after seizures, and just went through a period of 2 months of headaches with and without seizures- 4 1/2 days in the hospital....no real cause found, so since I finally have Medicare (on disability- Medicaid was useless), i can see a neurologist again. I called today, and the scheduler will be in tomorrow.

hello my name is bevin and i suffer from a non specific seizure disorder and take depakote for it . But I would ,like to say that my seizures do definitely bring on an upset stomach and headaches. That happens with any sort of seizure because your chemicals in the brain are miss firing and causing your brain to overload which puts stress on your brain and stresses your stomach out to the point of being nausiated because of all of that stress the brain and body are under. To any one who has had headaches that landed them in the hospital bed or on the couch at home I have had those really bad hedaches and upset stomachs but you just fight right through it and go on with your life. You are given no joice but to go on with life. I have sufferred with my seizure disorder from the age of four as a child but was not properly diagnosed til the adult age of 21 when I was in college.:)

That's true- once you find out it's not from some other cause, there's not much to do but try and find a med that helps (Midrin and Zanaflex are helping me), and not do as much physically stressful stuff that pulls your neck or upper back so much....easier said than done. But knowing there wasn't anything else wrong was a relief. (as was leaving that last hospital roommate- don't care to see her again- complained constantly and LOUD !!!)

to neuro wreck from bevin
I know things are easier said than done when it comes to meds and seizuredisorders but we all try with nothing but the best of goals and intentions in mind, and we reach these goals and intentions with hard work and a lot of drive and effort it is a wonderful feeling. That is what we all have in common no matter what the problems are that we have with seizures. Having a hospital roomate that was awful and loud made everything that much harder. Glad you are away from that roomate from the hospital and at home again. The stress has seemed to have lessened. just keep fighting and doing what is best for you.
