Today I am having crippling chest pain , it doesn't feel like its from my heart though. Its either from this stupid zetia pill or its gastric. I have gerd and I have been having a problem with belching a lot to relieve pressure in my chest/stomach cavity. I also get bloated from eating small amounts of food and the hospital told me last week that on my abdominal xray it showed that a part of my colon wasn't moving along with the rest of it..they wanted to know if I was able to move my bowels which I was able to though it does feel a little strange down there these days. So can you get crippling chest pain from taking a statin? Can stomach/intestinal issues cause cripplng chest pains? I already know I don't have any total or near total blockages in my heart and my heart seems to be in fine working order so I can rule that out for the most part. Please someone try and give me some advice , I just went for a chest xray and made an appointment with my gastroenterologist but its not until september and no way can i wait that long. I also stopped the zetia until I find out why i am in total pain and to see if it makes it go away when stopping it. I am screwed if i cant take statins , totally screwed.

Some of the side effects of zetia listed include chest pain, stomach pain and muscle pain. As with any statin intake, you have to get your liver function checked to make sure everything is okay. In addition, some of the symptoms of GERD also include chest pain and stomach pain. Nausea and stomach pain are also listed as side effects of toprol. Also, If you are taking any NSAID's for pain, that might further exacerbate the problem. Any or all of these can be the cause of your pain.
Another factor might be if you are eating lots of high fiber foods to lower your cholesterol and you have not allowed your system to adjust to the high fiber intake gradually, that will definitely cause intestinal issues. Those intestinal pains/cramps can indeed be very painful and combined with the GERD that you have will make you feel like you are about to explode and the pain will not be confined to just your gut area but it will involve your whole GI tract and thus the chest area as well. With the higher intake of fibrous foods, you need to make sure you are drinking enough water. Juices and carbonated drinks make things worse. Find out by process of elimination which foods trigger these symptoms. Dairy products, beans and the cabbage-family foods are some of the worst offenders. The flip side of this coin, might be that you are not eating enough fiber in you diet and thus you are having a problem with elimination. So you really have to know your body and find out what works for you and stick with it.
If the pain persists, don't wait for an appointment and go to the ER as soon as possible because persistent intestinal pain that does not resolve could be a sign of blockage which has to be taken care of immediately. Good luck
