Hi,

I was curious if anyone saw the 20/20 episode this past Friday night. I turned it on with about 2 minutes left in the last story it aired. There was a young lady that was somehow injured. I was curious as to what happened to her. The thing that caught my eye was the narrorator said that research shows that it takes 2 -5 years for the nerves to restore themself after an injury. This lady went from not even being able to walk to having a baby and living almost normally after 5 years.

That 2 -5 year range really seems to be the key timeframe for recovery with injury to the nerves.

Love to know if anyone saw it.

Thanks,
Gloria

I watched it too Gloria. She came so darn far. That was the time frame 2-5 years. It really was impressive to see how she could not even walk, talk, communicate...now is living a wonderful life. Gave birth, has job....doing great.

Hi Charolette,

What happened to her? I only saw the last 2 minutes but it was so inspirational of how far she came. If she got from where she was at to what she is like now, hey I can do it too. I thought that 2 - 5 year mention was interesting.

Gloria...

She was in a car and the driver was drunk. They crashed...she had terrible head trama. They thought she would never walk, or ever be mentally "normal" again. Her mother really pushed her...and she had a great support system. She said she just did the exercises, and things they told her she could not do. She said her baby was the best exercise...hahhahah.

Wow, thanks Charolette. That is even more amazing that she had a head trauma. Makes me think I can make it. I thought she had some familar symptoms but wasn't sure as I only saw a couple minutes of it. She had told her mom that she would always be like that and look at her now. I have said that numerous times that I will just always be like this. What an inspiration. She looked so happy taking care of her baby.

I'm having such a crappy day. It is just the boose I needed to get my day going.

Thanks.....saw you are continuing to improve.....keep it up and enjoy that little pumpkin of yours.

Didn't think of this before but found Amanda's story by doing a search on 20/20 in case any one is interested. It is amazing the symptoms she had and how far she has come even after years of recovery and even when she thought she would not improve anymore.

Just shows nerves can heal and the brain can compensate around injury.

Thanks Gloria...

You are an inspiration also. In my early stages I read lots of what you posted. I do believe we are all going to get there...could have a few blips over the years...but heal. Nice to know that this can happen.
