View Full Version : 5 year old son's diarrhea

I'm mainly looking for someone who's had a similar problem. When my son turned 1 he started having diarrhea almost constantly. The doctors insisted that it was "toddler diarrhea" which was explained as diarrhea for no apparent reason. But then he started losing weight. He had a few tests done which revealed nothing. I thought it may be an allergy and since they wouldn't do an allergy test until age 2, I tried to figure out for myself by cutting out pretty much everything I could think of one by one. Well, I never could find anything conclusive.

Since then, it's gotten quite a bit better, and he isn't losing weight anymore (although he's always been on the small side for his age) but he still gets diarrhea at least once a week. Does anyone else have any experience with this problem?

i don't have any experience with what you are talking about, BUT....

my daughter has been sick over the last week, and she was throwing up, so we took her to the doctor on friday. he talked to us about if it moves down and she starts having diarrhea...

he told us to absolutely NOT give her any dairy whatsoever, until 48 hours after the last bout of diarrhea. can't remember exactly WHY, but something in the dairy will just keep it going. and he said that it might take a few days after giving her dairy, and then she'd have diarrhea all over again.

anyway, maybe your doctor already told you all this, but it was new to me when i heard it (i mean, i've always known about no dairy while they're sick with tummy problems, but i'd never thought to wait 48 hours!). hope you figure it out soon!

It sounds as if you are taking guesses so here are a couple;
Watch if he is handling things that could have parasites...wash hands a lot.

Dairy, chocolat, orange juice, watermelon, tomatoes and pop set off a lot of people-even if it is not a full allergy.

a reaction to stress

good luck
