View Full Version : Safe for baby to sleep in play yard?

Someone gave me one of those Graco Travel Lite cribs (not the Pack & Play, this one's a little smaller) and the weight limit for the bassinet part of it is 15 lbs. Well, it says when the baby is too big to use the bassinet, you can lower the pad to the bottom and use it as a play yard. It is safe for the baby to sleep in there when the padding is at the bottom? I use it everytime I go to my mom's, but since my daughter is just past the weight limit, I don't want to use it as a bassinet anymore. I would hate to have to buy another travel crib that will hold her weight when I have a perfectly good one already. Anyone know? Thanks!

ds is sleeping in his playyard even as we speak. Has slept in it since he was 3 weeks old. I think it all depends on how squishy the pad is. This isn't a graco, but the padding isn't real squishy, it's pretty firm. you can always call graco and see what they have to say?

My son did it for almost a year. He couldn't climb out of it like he coulds his crib. Just make sure not to have it full of pillows and toys when the child is to sleep in it.

Sincerely,
MG

The inteded use of a "travel crib" is for baby to sleep there when away from a full-size crib. So, yes, go ahead and let your child sleep there. Just make sure that you follow all the same precautions that you do for your regular crib -- tight fitting sheets, no pillows, etc.

A larger packnplay has the same weight restriction on the bassinet portion, so there is no need to buy a different version. Plus, know that when you go to a hotel and request a crib you'll get a full-size packnplay 95% of the time.
