I am still the only one on this board who does not suffer from depression. At least I do not feel that I do. Can you have it and not know it?

Scoobs, I don't suffer from depression nor anxity attacks. I've only had one anxity attack. But, my husband does. Depression is a reaction to the situation your in. I had to force my husband to see a Phycyatrist. He's doing much better w/the depression, but still has a few anxity attacks per week. Love, Kim

Scooby, you CAN have depression and not know about it. Some people have biochemical depression without the feelings of being sad, down, blue, hopeless, etc. and experience it instead as irritability, crabbiness, and being short-tempered. Some people experience it as fatigue. The research is fairly definitive about neurotransmitter problems having a key role in depression, altho the direction of the causal arrows between life situations and decreased levels of the neurotransmitters seem to go both ways. But, all that aside, hooray if you don't have it!!

Scoobs, Don't fret that you don't have depression (don't worry, be happy!). My doc told me that I was depressed because of all the pain I was in. Even as a child, my pain tolerance level was zero, so I know I react very traumatically when hit with pain. The meds just aren't helping me, so let's hope I get situated again and the depression lessens! You go, girl!

I did this post because I thought maybe I was misdiagnosed or something. I always think they just say we have this until they figure out what is really wrong.

Scooby,
My psychiatrist believes there are different levels of depression. The type that I have is only because of the FMS problems. But I don't get real down and out or clinically depressed. I can remember a couple of times when I was really down because I was sick and tired of being sick and tired. But I think my worst bout was right after I was put out of work in November 99. I slept for about 4 days straight because I wasn't sure what I was going to do with myself since I had always worked. But the bouts of of a much lesser degree now, and I think I would call it anxiety rather than depression. But one reason we may not have them or think we don't is because of all the medicine that we are on. It scares me to think that I have to take this much medicine and still have the pain. Can you imagine what we would be like if we didn't take medicine?

I told the doctor if I seemed anxious it was because of all the frustration I feel mainly towards him and his staff. In fact I called Fri at 9am to tell him about the reaction I was having to the medication....still waiting for him to return my call....do you see my frustration?

Scoobs, I wrote to Linda about this on another topic, but I went to my doc 9 days ago (I had moved my appt. up because I am hurting so badly). Nine days ago he said he was going to call my rheumy to discuss treatment for me, and after two calls to his office (one yesterday where I told his receptionist that I was numb on my left side from my head to my toe), and no return phone call. This is what it's like with no insurance. I can't afford to go to anyone else. I don't have the money for the initial consult that everyone charges. I'm gonna end up in the hospital over this one. At least I could get treatment that way, and they can stand in line on getting paid.

I know I am fortuneate to have insurance even if it is an hmo the only problem is all the good doctors dont take it. So if I want to see a good one I have to pay for it anyway.
