Anyone know what causes white toenails? Mine have all changed about three years ago to a bright white color, except there is a pinkish line at the distal end. I've been to the podiatrist and he said it's not fungal and the discoloration is not in the nails themselves. Dermatologist said she didn't know what it was and asked if I was aneamic (sp?) which I'm not as all kinds of bloodwork have been consistantly normal. Just wondering if anyone else has this problem or has any clues as to what it could be.

Are the nails as hard as they used to be?

I'm not sure how hard they used to be. They are currently pretty sturdy and not breaking or brittle, just bright white.

I'll see what I can find out for you.

Thanks Marti. I have learned that in the elderly it can be a normal variant but I am 36. If you look up a picture of Terry's nail thats what they look like but according to my bloodwork and Ct scan I have nothing wrong. My fingernails might be a little white but not like my toes. My mother doesn't know why I'm concerned as she thinks they look like a french manicure. I really appreciate you looking into this for me.:)

So you are saying that the entire nail plate is white? Terry's Nails does not always show up in the blood from what I've heard.

Most of the nails are white except there is a band of normal color near the tip.
