My 86 yr. old mom is finally moving in with us in a couple of days. She is coming from a rehab care center where she is receiving physical therapy due to a fall in her home. She actually had a tia stroke, and is not progressing as well as she had hoped to. She is in a wheel chair and her ability to walk with a walker is very limited. With supervision, and cannot go very far any more without tiring. The doctors, physical therapists, and social services told her she cannot live alone anymore. She agreed, and is moving in with us. I am an only child, and am really releived that she is coming. She never wanted to make the move until now;she had lifeline while living alone, and I went 2-3 days a week to assist her in what ever she needed, doctors appt.,shopping,etc. I am going to need some help and am not even sure what exactly I am going to need. I know I will need somebody to come in maybe once or twice a week to help out. And if my husband and I want to go out at night, who would I call? I know some places do respite care when you are gone for an extended period. We have an out of state wedding coming up in the next month, and might have to do something like that. I am starting to feel a little scared and stressed out. Any advice or info would be deeply appreciated!Thank-you!

Hi, and welcome to the Caregiver's 'group'!!
Yes, having a sudden change such as this one can be nerve- wracking and scary!!

Most respite care agencies I've heard of can help for as short of a time as two hours, if you give them advance notice. And, they can help you any time of the day or night. I would call around to the respite care/ home health agencies and see what they 'offer'.
I'm sorry if that's not much help, but that's all I can think of to say. Maybe someone else can give more advice.
Take care, and let us know how things go!!
