Ok now this may seem tricky as i'm no specialist but here goes.

Now I have had ultra sounds , umpteen blood tests medicines from colpermin to many others and over the past possibly 3 to 4 yrs been told it's just IBS.

Anyway this isn't the main problem.

A month ago i'd had toothache and im already on Paxil for my anxiety 20mg a day to 40mg , anxiety depending.

So i foolishly took a soluble aspirin and realised it wasnt good and it really upset my bowel.

Next !!

I went to the A & E and the prescribed Metronidazole 1200mg and Amoxicillin 750mg (totaly daily amount) both 3 times a day and I was told that would go ok with the Paxil (it's Seroxat here in the UK)

Anyway I was also told I could take Codiene ontop of this to ease my pain ?

Anyway it was a 5 day coarse and On the 3rd day I took the Codiene and I noticed i was starting to get looser stools and my bowel was getting very BUSY indeed.

So i told the chemist, rang the online NHS helpline and was told the Metronidazole can upset or loosen bowel movement but im sure id be ok.

So the tragedy hit on day 5 on the last penultimate night id had really bad diarrhea , but with only a day left and a wisdom tooth extraction the same day i finished the coarse.

Seriously it's my own fault for not listening to my body BUT !

4am on the last morning I had major anal bleeding after constant diarrhea and was hosptialised for 3 days with near hourly bleeding for 40hrs and MAjor MAJOR bowel pains.

from my lower back and my hips to my gut and all of me was bloated, gassy serious movement and distension and i could feel EVERY single movement in my body and bowel pouring out of me.

I had all the regular tests heart rate blood oxygen, pulse rate etc blood sugar all normal , creatinine levels and other blood signs normal but constant blood loss and seriosu bowel issues.

The only thing I can assume is that i possibly overdosed, but im just worried that i may have caused some long term damage ?

Fortunately i had 2 xrays and im having a colonoscopy and sent 2 blood samples from the bleeding and 2 samples stool and urine to the microbiology labs.

Since leaving hospital I have had nothing but bloating , dyspesia aches pains and constant disruptions.

commomile tea is soothing and helps as does peppermint and a BASIC diet and probiotics.

I'm just worried i may have done some serious injuries inside form all the pills i was put on ?

anybody got any good tips to help me reduce the gas and bloating and help repair my damage ??

I'm also now on Omeprazole 20mg a day as a proton-pump inhibitor to reduce acid reflux and gastro resistant.

Seriously I just wonder if alot of pharmacueticals only worsen long term the problems of IBS.

Maybe our sensitivity is hyper ?

this has really put me of taking legal medication ad hoc.

I know this seems a long winded (excuse the pun) post.

Obviously my doctors are doing what they can to help , but tips are always welcome.

I SERIOUSLY thought I WAS going to die.

I'm getting married soon and my Fiancee was hysteric when i was rushed to the Local county region Hospital and in emergency for 3 days

Luckily my blood loss wasnt enought o warrant a transfusion , im just hoping it doesnt happen again.

OH !!!! I have NEVER ever had blood loss at all prior to all those meds, just normal IBS symptoms, varying stool patterns , rumbles, never had interupted sleep.

I hope this was the right column to post in ?

Im new here so tips welcome on what to do next.

Not that I don;t trust the medical profession , but It can be a lottery sometimes.

TY if you do read or reply in advance

M Harrison

P.S Im in the UK if that assists ?

Respectfuly.

Im a newbie too :)

First of all Ive been suffering from ibs for 3 years. I felt that my life was over. Doctors dont have a clue and give you medication but as Ive discovered its all about your diet. I was with my doc last january and like yourself she realised I was suffering from high anxiety and tried to prescribe different calmers but they all made me unwell. Recently i discovered it was down to sugar, it seemed to be affecting my nervous system so i gave it up completely and I mean not even a piece of fruit. I am like a new person my nervous system has calmed right down. Along with this i stay off Alcohol, wheat, coffee, dairy (only soya) all cakes and biscuits. Im not saying you will have the same food intolerence but you seriously need to look at your diet. Hope this is of some help because there is no medicine or quick fix its down to yourself.;)
