Has anyone here had Carpal Tunnel Surgery before finding out they have FMS? My doctor thinks my carpal tunnel may be flaring up again and I am not too sure that I want to have surgery again. I may go through the EMG test and see what the results say and may decide to have surgery or not.

Charlie, Go for the test first. That's my two cents, Kim

Did you know that carpal tunnel is also a symptom of thyroid problems? (I'm back on my thyroid harping) There's a technique called Active Release Therapy that does wonders for carpal tunnel and also plantar fasciitis(fibro feet). Punch in "active release therapy and Dr. Leahy" on your search engine (I find Google best) It's a type of massage. Non invasive- altho done on the feet can be excrutiating painful but has some relief. Of course the best thing is to get your thyroid fixed. I'm really interested in knowing what all your TSH numbers are. I think I'll ask for a survey.

Hi all, The hot wax bath does seem to help with my movement and pain a bit, Gary thought so to. It maybe all in my head but, it feels sooo good and softens your skin. It also, warms you. I have been freezing (my teeth even chater) to frying so off and on all day and night. I go from shorts to sweats and blankets, it's not menopause had that checked out, the doctor laughted at me when I asked for the testing. He said anyone who gets pregnant a month after loosing a preg. then loosing that one and gets preg. again in two mos. (we were told to wait by the high risk doc.) isn't starting menopause. Well, I guess he was right. Love, Kim

Charlie, thinking I had carpal tunnel started all this mess for me. It's on an earlier post, but doc sent me for nerve conduction tests in both hands. I cried cause it hurt so bad, but the tests showed normal. I still drop things, do not have a grip, it hurts when I staple things, etc..

Yes, I've had carpal tunnel surgery in both hands. It helped tremendously. Still have some pain on occassion when I do too much with my hands, but nothing like before. I tried the relesae massage, and accupuncture first on it, but it was only temporary for a few days at a time. Be aware that conduction tests do not work for people with FM, or so I found out. Each time the doctor said, "I don't understand these results, they make no sense, maybe they made a mistake when they ran the tests" What do you expect when nerve signals are being messed up from the FM? I could actually feel the stimulating currents in the shoulder and often had NO response when shocked any place down the arm. They of course were looking for fingers to jump, which led to repeated extra shocks with them thinking they did something wrong. I've met many who said the tests were so painful, but I felt they were mild compared to FM pain. In the end it was my decision to go ahead with it and the doctor agreed it may help, fortunately it did. Take Care, John

Hi John, Thanks for the info. about the test, our doc. is thinking about doing that test. But, if it doesn't work what's the point. I only had carpel tunnel when I was pregnant, the Ob said that some do at this time. She also told me that it might not go away. Thank God, mine stopped about 6 mos. after delivery. But, sometimes my right one does come and go but, not too much. I don't get it. Happy Holidays to you all, Kim
