I was taking Flagyl for a parasite that i had about a month ago. I took it twice a day for about 6 days and it made me extremely sick. I stopped taking it and i started to get better. Now i seem to have bowel movements immidiately as soon as i wake up. And then after i eat something i have another bowel movement and feel very nauseous. They did tests to make sure i still didnt have the parasite and they all came back negative. The doctor said it takes a while for the stomach to heal from the parasite. Im wondering how long this will last because it doesnt seem to be getting better. If anyone else has had the same thing let me know how long it took to get better.

I just finished a bout with Flagyl (taking it every 8 hours for 9 days). About a half hour after taking that pill I felt terrible. I was taking it for a flare-up of diverticulities. It made my stomach hurt, I felt naeeated and very tired and grouchy. I finally decided on the ninth day that I had had enough. As soon as I stopped taking it, I began to feel better and by the second day I felt like my old self. I hope I never have to take that stuff again. Even the minute taste of the pill on my tongue tasted with some vile mettalic poison.
I always ten to have a BM right after breakfast and sometimes later in the day after eating a good-size meal. I don't figure that's abnormal. Hope you are feeling better soon. If not, talk to your doctor again.

I found that I could not take Flagyl -- it made me have loose BMs and gave me gastritis after only 3 days.

I have to take an anti fungal medication after taking it--- along with probiotic supplements since it wipes out the friendly intestinal bactertia as well as the bad bacteria. And also a PPI like Prilosec to help with the gastritis.

It is real a strong anti-biotic!

I wish you well---Harry

I was given Flagyl while in the hospital for diverticulitis and got VERY ill from it. Non stop vomiting. They gave me something else that worked well, but I can't recall what it was. Flagyl is so hard on your stomach. Try to eat small bites of bread or pretzels continually for awhile when taking it. I had it put on my records that I'm allergic to Flagyl so it won't happen again. Wish I could remember the alternative drug, but it was a difficult time for me. Eating the probiotic yogurt or Activa is so helpful in keeping the good bacteria.

I am taking Flagyl and Cipro together, twice a day. I sometimes get a stomachache from it, but I make sure to take it with food, and this cuts down on the stomachaches. It really helps me with fissures/fistulae. If they are getting to the point where I'm almost too sore and raw to wipe, I take the medicine and within a few days I am not as senseitive down there.

I also eat Activia once per day while taking Flagyl. I figure that it repopulates my instestines with good bacteria, but for all I know it my be a waste of money because maybe the drug kills the probiotics as well...
