For those solely on Keppra (no other anti-convulsant), what is your dosage? I am wondering how the doctor determines what dosage to put you on. Do they consider what your dosages were on previous anti-convulsants?
Thanks.

I am on 250mg twice daily. Until I go for another EEG.

There are standard dosing guidelines they use- some use age, some weight; the manufacturers also have minimum days before increases listed in their info.

My doctor put me on keppra, 1000 mg/day. 500 in the am and 500 in the pm. there was no gradual increase. She is at the same time weaning me off of Topamax which will take a total of 50 days (25 mg every 5 days). I thought it was strange that she didn't gradually increase the dosage for the keppra but i read somewhere that you didn't necessarily need to.
i am feeling very strange now. i have felt strange because of the topamax but the keppra has me feeling groggy and tired. i grind my teeth a lot. i still feel stupefied from the topamax although I am currently on 225 mg instead of 250 mg.
Does anybody have any experience coming off topamax, going on keppra and can chime in?

I havn't taken both but I can tell you that with Keppra I was tired for the first 2 weeks and it has gotten better.
The grinding of the teeth.... funny you should mention that - I just got back from the dentist with 3 broken teeth. This happened in the last 2 weeks as i just had xrays done at that time.
I will have to keep an eye on this.

Thats a little fast on Kepp but within range. I was started (on poly therapy) at 500PM; then the following week went to 500 and 500 and so on... Some reason they like using the 500's and weekly bumps. Keep an eye on symptoms (if ANY) is all I'll say. It takes the body ONE DAY to "adjust" to Keppra increases; so pretty quick compared to other meds (like Topa takes almost a week; as you know).
If for some reason you don't feel right a few days after an increase call your Dr. My friend had to use 250's and even split the 250 to slowly (going every OTHER week near the end of the increase) reach her current dose. It worked, just not how the first Dr wanted to "go fast" on the ramp up.
