Lutheran122 08-08-2007, 08:25 AM Can I take this supplement along with my statin for now? I am only on Zetia. Sponsor Lutheran122 08-08-2007, 05:51 PM Has no one heard of this supplement? I heard it was great for lowering cholosterol. Guy1_USA 08-08-2007, 11:22 PM Can I take this supplement along with my statin for now? I am only on Zetia. Kind of confused. You say you are only on Zetia. But you mention you are interested in taking RYR along with your statin. Let me see if I can help out. Zetia is not a statin. But RYR basically is a statin. There are two great posts recently that go into great detail on RYR, both pros and cons. Search recent posts and read them. If you take supplements... you need to tell your Doctor what you are taking as many supplents in high doses are really nothing more than medication with a different label. Maybe ask a pharmacist is you can take RYR and Zetia together. My guess is they would give you a more confident answer. mmvic 08-08-2007, 11:24 PM There is a very recent and lengthy thread about RYR if you check. Zetia is not a statin and yes you can take RYR with it. You might notify your doctor about it though for his records. great minds think alike Ventureman!! Our answers were independently the same. Lutheran122 08-09-2007, 07:37 AM Thanks , ya I made a mistake calling zetia a statin. I just meant is it ok using those 2 cholesterol reducing drugs/supplements at the same time. Also does anyone know a supplement that can reduce inflammation in the body so as to maybe not have to take a real statin? I just feel every time i go on a real statin like vytorin or lipitor I get bad body aches. Lutheran122 08-09-2007, 09:32 AM Damn I read that thread and I realize I bought the RYR in the 1.2 form instead of the 1.4 like that guy says is necessary. Eh I am just using it to supplement my other cholosterol meds and methoeds..will it be a waste of time though like he says? Guy1_USA 08-09-2007, 04:02 PM Also does anyone know a supplement that can reduce inflammation in the body so as to maybe not have to take a real statin? I just feel every time i go on a real statin like vytorin or lipitor I get bad body aches. Have you considered Niaspan...? I achieved great results from it. I take 3000 mg at bedtime. Reduced my cholesterol 50% with it. mmvic 08-09-2007, 11:31 PM Lutheran: I've gotten good results with 2 to 3 capsules of 600 mg RYR per day. two at bed and one at dinner. I don't take Zetia or other drugs with it other than fish oil capsules , 3000 mg per day. Went from between 260 or 240 TC to 180 to 160 within 8 weeks along with some diet changes. In your case with the Zetia, you might start with 1 to 2 capsules per day and check your numbers after 2 to 3 months. Watch for any new body aches since RYR does contain some statin. Add niacin as desired fro HDL improvement. Guy1_USA 08-09-2007, 11:57 PM I love our own bias's... Lutheran122 08-10-2007, 05:16 AM I am now on lipitor as well , should I still try 1 or 2 RYR pills a day or niacin to accompany this drug? My doctor said these supplements won't hurt me if I take them along with the lipitor he just said he isn't positive if they will help me or not. mmvic 08-10-2007, 10:18 PM I personally would not take RYR with Lipitor. Niacin is another matter. Lutheran122 08-10-2007, 10:39 PM Its only 10mg of lipitor. Do you think it will be too much statin using the RYR with Lipitor? Lenin 08-11-2007, 07:38 AM RYR + Zetia would be a good combination. RYR + Lipitor would be a waste of money and probably increase your risk of a statin reaction. Same for RYR + 10 mg. Lipitor + Zetia (presumably 10 mg.) The last would strike me as a somwhat serious risk with no benefit. Lutheran122 08-11-2007, 08:09 AM OK I will hold off on the RYR and use it in case I have to stop the lipitor..I am going to try the Niacin though..the non flush version. I will use it at the lowest dosage and see what my HDL score is in a few months. funnyesq 08-16-2007, 05:56 PM I do No flush Niacin + Red Rice Yeast extract...is that wrong? It seems to work for me. |
