View Full Version : Something other than Herpes?

I initially had a severe outbreak and was told it was most likely herpes and that I should not really bother to get tested because the doctor was pretty positive. I then got another outbreak where the first initial sore appeared, luckily it was only a sore bump and never spread or became anything as nearly severe as the first outbreak.

Here is when things get weird. Both "outbreaks" occurred a week after I was visiting at my boyfriend's mother's house. I'm not sure if this is a weird coincidence or if it means that the outbreak is not herpes but something else that I am getting exposed to at his mother's house.

My boyfriend got tested for herpes and has Herpes I. I got tested and was negative for both types of herpes. I know the results are not 100% accurate but does anyone know if what I have could be something other than herpes and still have an outbreak that is less severe than the first? Any input on the subject is greatly appreciated, thanks.

If you’ve just contracted the virus and these were your first out breaks then a blood test isn’t going to show positive. The virus has to be in your system for a period of time before you’ve built up enough antibodies for it to show.

If your doctor swabbed the lesions and it came back negative then it probably isn’t herpes.

If your boyfriend has herpes then chances are you will too sooner or later. Condoms help but are not 100% effective in preventing the spread of this virus.

Stress can cause outbreaks. Do these visits cause you a lot of stress? I know I get pretty stressed when I visit my family.
