Just started on Lyrica, pain in shoulder back & down to hip, heard all different things. Would it work for this kind of pain, anyone know? Scary starting new meds. Please share any experiances with it, only on 1 50mg @nighttime, then to increase after 1 week. Thanks for you replys, Sammy

Sammy, if you do a search, there are several threads about Lyrica. Lyrica is one of several drugs that are specifically for nerve pain.
Neurontin, Topomax are two of the others that are used for nerve pain. There are side effects that go along with all of these drug. If your doctor didn't tell you about them, you might want to do a search so you know what to expect. Another thing is that you don't stop taking these drugs without tapering off of them slowly.

I also have just started taking lyrica.I just started taking it a week ago or so. I take 75mg twice a day. I do actually feel relief from it. I take vicodine every 4 hours and between doses the pain use to just be horrible. I feel the lyrica subsides the pain enough for me to make it through between doses. Side effects... the only ones that I noticed so far are I'n not quite as hyper as I was from the vicodin, I actually can take a nap. I did confuse a few words the first week but nothing major. However if the weight gain starts I am OFF THEM. I do notice a little increase in appetite so I am watching that. So far my advice is try the lyrica out I seem to be finding some relief. However my insurance won't cover it. My doctor gave me 6 months supply of samples, he is great.......good luck to you, :angel:

Queeneee & ibake&pray, thanks alot, I do indeed ck. on every drug I take, but nothing like hearing from real people, I always feel like we don't find out everything about meds, even when we think we do, I have not have a choice but to try it, pain just getting worse more uncontrollabe, figured out alot to do with inflammtion, waiting for test no doc. will anything more without them. I felt hyper. on the Vic. also, only ended up lasting about 3 hrs, on oxycodone (lowest dose)just till neuro appointment next friday ( hate taking meds at all), tests due before then. now of course done with streroid pack so pain back and oxy not lasting either, I hope the Lyrica works, heard some have nasty effects, others don't, also some gain weight and other don't, with my luck I will, and I am vey short,only weigh 118 now and use to weight between 100-105 till I hit forty, don't carry weight well gained it before with steroids, never lost it all, but want to feel better so we will see. As for dose I started 1 50mg @ night for a week then up to 2, maybe 3, hope not. Thanks again, Sammy
