HEy everyone, I am new to this board and wanted to ask others about what they felt like after they stopped their birth control. I have been on bcp for about 10 years and have never stopped them. The first day of my last period was July 28th and the last of my bcp, and yesterday and today my breasts are so painful, could barely put them in a bra and I have been extrememly exhausted. So tired I could barely keep my eyes open. No naseau but body aches. My husband is joking that I am already pregnant, we had sex on august 3 for the first time bcp free...but could i be having symptoms if I were so early? I personally think its my body freaking out that there is no more pills....did anyone else have anything like this when they stopped their bcp? Thanks guys

I don't think you are pg already BUT you never know. It's more likely that it is just your bodies reaction to getting off the pill. But be ready for ANYTHING... I went off the pill in late June and I figured it would take a couple months to get my cycle back on track... well, I just found out I'm pregnant... and when I conceived, I hadn't even been off the pills a full month!! Goodluck!

I am in almost the same situation as you are, socalwife. I am experiencing all of the same symptoms...went off bcp (after being on the pill for almost nine years) at the end of July, and my lmp on pills was July 29. My husband and I are so excited about starting a family, so we just decided to get started on Aug 4. Since then, starting on Friday, Aug. 10 I have had some light brown spotting, which has continued for the past four days. It has been light enough to produce only a few spots on my pantyliner each day, and I also see it when I wipe after going to the bathroom. I have read about implantation bleeding, and the time could be right for this to have occurred, but I am also worried that maybe it's just my body adjusting to the hormones. However, since Thursday of last week, I have also been experiencing extreme tiredness and (sorry if this is tmi) sore nipples. Today, I had some swiss cheese, which I love, and it tasted horrible to me. My husband had some and he said it tasted just like it always does to him. He is also laughing and saying that maybe I did get pregnant this quickly after going off the pill. I still feel like it's too good to be true, but only time will tell.

someoneinva...how are you doing since you posted? I am trully at a loss now....I had an appointment with my gyn yesterday....and after having slight spotting on monday night and a little on tuesday...I woke up on Wednesday morning...bleeding...this time not crimsom color but a brighter pink. SO I cancelled my apt...and rescheduled because I was having a biopsy done and didnt want any blood to deter the results and possibly have to have it again...which would be my luck. Well I beleieved it was my period....I put in a tampon and when I changed it..it was saturated....(sorry i know tmi) then when I went to change it last night the tampon was not even discolored in the slightest. I went to bed expecting to have more AF....nada. Woke up nothing.....and my boobs are still really sore....as they have been for almost 2 weeks. SO I am at a loss.....Completly lost!!! Any suggestions....

I have friend who got pregnant while using the Nuva ring. She was late on getting her new one and got pregnant between rings.

It's nice to have someone else to discuss this stuff with. My husband has been wonderful, but sometimes you need to speak with other women who are going through similar experiences. Initially, I thought maybe I was having implantation bleeding, and that I could possibly be pregnant. However, the brown blood did not stop until Thursday the 16th, which put me at 7 days of having it. I keep flip-flopping back and forth as to whether or not it was my first period off the pill. I never had red blood, but I did have a few gushes of dark brown blood. The rest of the time it was pretty light. Do you think it's possible that I ovulated right after coming off of the pill, though not in time for the first time that my husband and I had unprotected sex? Maybe the same happened to you. It seems like we were on exactly the same time frame. Also, when I was on the pill, I consistently had 24 day cycles. What about you?

I think that you probably had your first period as well. Even though it wasn't as long as it usually would be...maybe because you just had your last "pill period" not too long before, like me.

If you don't mind me asking, how old are you? I am 25.

We do sound about the same. I am 27...and you know the weirdest thing, I woke up this am....out of dead sleep running to the bathroom....dry heaving. I tested this am...and still negative. I am so at a loss right now. When I was on the ring I had 25 day cycles. I am on day 22 right now...and no more blood nothing. My blood only lasted 3 days and the first of the 2 was just enough to put color on the tissue nothing else...it wasnt till wed. that I had some bright pink blood but it was gone the same day. I think it could be possible about ovulation for you....anything is possible is what I learning through this whole experience....If I read my body right I ovulated on 8/6....had some strange discharge....but again I am at a loss...because I have been on the pill...and not being able to chart. Then on Thursday I had the strangest thing, TMI in advance....I looked in the toilet after peeing and there was little tiny peices of what looked to be tissue, it was flesh colored. If I could describe it...it would be similar to how plankton is in the ocean....cant see it individually but with a couple grouped you can see it but not clearly. So Monday I will know...have a dr. apt....I am going to find out what the symptoms are for going off bcp...and will definetly post to you what I find out. Have a great weekend.!!!

Well, it sounds like anything is possible at this point. You sound like you could have a better chance of being pregnant than me, but who knows? Guess you'll find out after going to the doctor. I also had the plankton-type stuff in the toilet after peeing, but it was brown...pieces of my uterine lining?

I look forward to hearing from you soon. Good luck. I will also keep you posted.

Ok....I have answers....

I went the dr. this afternoon and unfortunatly needed a colposcopy to make sure my cells did not change into cancer. They did a pregnancy test right away...and BFN! I got in the room with my MD. and told her all the symptoms I have been having. And she told me that it is perfectly common to have signs that mimic pregnancy the first month to even two month off of birth control, especially if you have been on them for so long. She said for a lack of a better word a women Super Ovulates...to compensate for the lack of hormones provided by the pills, your body is now having to rely on itself. I started bleeding this morning...and beleive AF is officially here...as I had cramps. She assured me that everything is normal and I am ok to keep trying, there is no signs of a miscarriage or anything. She just said it may be alittle more difficult to track ovulation since my cylces are so scattered with spotting. I knew it had to be too good to be true getting prego the first month trying...But heck here is the fun we will have this month in trying again! Good luck to you...and maybe you got lucky this month. Keep me posted.

Wow. Thanks for letting me know. I hope your test results come back okay.

That is pretty much what I was thinking about all of the pregnancy symptoms after going off the pill...and we've been on it for so long so it makes sense that we would have them.

My symptoms of sore nipples and feeling really tired went away on the day that my brown bleeding stopped, so maybe it's all out of me now and I can start over. My monster zit has now gone away too, so I hope the surge of crazy hormones is all done.

Baby dust to us.

Thanks for the concern, I am actually pretty optimistic about my results. For the first time this dr. gave me some answers. I was always been under the assumption that my paps were coming back abnormal which is why they are doing the colposcopy. However the dr. informed my my paps were quite normal but because the HPV virus test is positive they do this as a precaution because I am at a higher risk for havign cervical cancer. This unfortunatly is my 3rd coloposcopy in 12 years, and it took me this last time to finnaly know the truth. Maybe I just didnt ask the right questions who knows, but now that I want baby I am asking for more answers. SHe got in and said everything looked absolutly normal. I have always been concerned about the HPV thing, it went away for several years and has returned, she is thinking that my husband could have been a carrier and has reinfected me. Who knows....the dr. made a joke that only nuns are the only people who will never be exposed to the virus. GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE.....LETS HAVE SOME FUN BABY MAKING!!!!! lol!

An update on myself:

So, last night before I went to bed I started having some pretty painful cramps, but was able to fall asleep and stay asleep throughout the night.

Woke up this morning, got in the shower, and a few minutes later nearly fell over with pain from the cramps starting up again. I started feeling nauseous and felt like I was going to pass out. I got out of the shower and was pale as a ghost. I almost threw up, but never did. After about 10 minutes of crying in pain the cramps subsided, but I still felt some minor pain throughout the next few hours. After the next few hours went by I got another bad twinge of pain...had the inclination to go to the bathroom to check everything out and AF had arrived! I had a little bit of red blood, but for the rest of the day it's been mostly brown and my cramps have continued. I am having a lot of pressure in my lower abdominal area...guess we get to know what it feels like to have a real period after being on pills for so long!! The weird thing is, my period started exactly when it would have if I had still been on the pills. I totally expected to be off schedule, but I guess not.
