I woke up this morning and both eyes were very bloodshot. There was a slight gooey discharge from one eye, not too much. I used eyedrops and did not put my contacts in but now, 12 hours later, my eyes are still very very bloodshot. They do not itch or hurt, they just look awful.

The right eye is worse than the left, but the right eye was not the one with the gooey discharge. No more discharge since first thing this morning, but my eyes look awful.

I cannot think what could be the cause.

I have a possible very small unruptured brain aneurysm diagnosed by a neurosurgeon (he told me to follow up in five years and didn't mention bloodshot eyes as a symptom) as such and I am terrified the bloodshot eyes could be connected even though I cannot find any research saying so.

I am a bit of a hypochondriac and if I could find out why my eyes have been red and are staying red I would feel better. I can't go to the eye doc because they're not open and the ER would likely think I was nuts...Help!

Did you call an eye doc? Many will have 24hr emergency care. Call around and find one. DO NOT GO THE E.R. unless you exhaust all possible eye doctors first.
