I thought that my daughter's current flare up was mono to start, in mid-Oct. It may have been. Several of the kids at school had it, she was definitelyexposed, and she had the big lymph nodes and some other symptoms that go along with it. The dr. didn't do any tests for it, tho, because with the HMO thing, they frown on testing since there's no treatment for it anyway. But she had the migraine and dizziness and some other symptoms last year, so I don't think the mono could have been a cause of this whole rotten thing.

Never had mono, and only missed 2 days of school from KG-12th grade. Then BOOM, this mess, and that all changed. But, I still don't miss much work, I keep pushin' for fear of not being able to continue if I stop!

I test positive for Epstein Barr antibodies which usually means you have had mono at some point in your life.

Hi Cyn, I didn't get taht shot, but at age 5 I did when my brother had measles and chicken pox at the same time, I don't remember the shot, just the taxi ride, alone to the docs. Now, I can't wait for the cortasone shot. Boy, it has helped my spasms and Garys. Love, Kim

I had mono in 8th grade. Missed 3 mos. of school. Come to think of it, some of my physical problems started around then too but there were other factors involved at that time as well.

Do they think that mono/EBarr have something to do with FM? Some of my physical problems started after I had the mono but I was also under a tremendous amount of stress during those years. Hmmmmmmm.......my brother also had mono but he's healthy as a horse and he had a way worse case of mono than I did. The poor kid's glands were swollen out like basketballs and he was fainting, they thought he had leukemia!!

Some people get the epstein barr mono virus and recooperate while others have ongoing immunity deficiencies.
EBV is one cause of CFS which is grouped with FMS. Perhaps you couldnt fight off the virus because you were under stress? or maybe the stress factor is pure coincidence and thirdly there is the predisposition possibility......

I don't know about my EBV results; never thought about it before. I was in bed with mono for 9 weeks and I slept for 23 hours per day for the first few weeks. I don't even know what I missed. I need to ask my doctor. I can't find any of my blood tests that have it listed. How is it listed? Does anyone know? If not I'll ask my doc to look it up. Happy Holidays to you all, Kim

Hi I have had mono for the last 2 1/2 years. My son who is 4 also has it at the moment. I am finding it interesting at work at the moment we have about 6 people on the same floor as me who have been diagnosed with ebv in the last month. I know they call it the kissing disease but it makes me wonder if it can be airborne? (we havn't been kissing each other either.) Also just wanted to know if any you have been diagnosed with carpet tunnel syndrome aswell??? I am wondering if it could be part of the same problem??

Hi

Just to let you know that I have had mono for the last 2 1/2 years. which the doctor has now diagnosed chronic fatigue.

I have never had mono either, nor was I ever tired until I got FM. Before FM I was very energetic, busy all the time. Now I can barely function most days without a nap, which is hard when you work full time and go to college full time and have 2 kids.

I have never had mono to my knowledge but I know they checked me continuously for Thyroid problems. That may be something common amongst us.

I had mono at age 22 for 7 weeks. With it, came hepatitis, strep throat, and scarlett fever. I haven't been normal since.
