I'm getting my splint off tomorrow and I know my leg will be an orange sticky mess. I am not going to have much time to scrub before having to get on a plane. Anyone with some brilliant ideas. I may have time to jump in the bath quickly. I'm bringing baby wipes for sure!

I think it takes a couple washings to come off. You sure they are not gonna cast you immediately after? What did you have done?

The betadine does not come off real easily, like monkybear said. You'll want to be gentle with your skin, especially if it's been in a cast for any length of time. Mine was very dry, flaky, sensitive and my PT has referred to it as my "baby butt skin"...it really is soft! I wouldn't worry about getting it all off...and it's not as sticky as you might think. Good luck...bet you can't wait to get that thing off!

I am 100% certain I will not be casted after. I had anterior impingement with a large talar osteophyte. They removed the osteophyte and cleaned up the scar tissue around the area. The ligaments and tendons were all caught up in "the mess" as my mom puts it. During the surgery they found that the two nerves to the top of my foot were caught up in everything and rubbing on the osteophyte too. The surgeon told me the day of surgery (told my mom twice) that I would go from splint to boot and then could start weight bearing as tolerated. I was splinted due to the location of the incision as well as that we have decided to be very conservative and the surgeon wants the area to rest and heal. I am in the boot until a minimum of September 7. I'm only 26. I broke the ankle when I was 14 and had arthroscopy at 15. My surgeon is great! Really took a lot of time with me explaining all the findings from the scans and laying out the options. In the end his recommendation and my choice (before hearing his recommendation) were the same.

how long until the marker they used during surgery wears off? I still have a "YES" from the preop nurse as well as some lovely landmark drawings. I know eventually they will come off, but it is just funny to see that every time I see my ankle now. Oh yes....Shaving was wonderful. Even better was LOTION!!! Body Butter from the Body Shop is my new best friend. Stopped all the itching instantly!

The marker should come off with 70% isopropyl alcohol.
