Hi all
I was only diognosed with FM about 8 months ago. I have recently started to get pounding head aches to go with all my other aches. Is this some thing the rest of you are dealing with also?
Is it related to FM.
I know very little about it, only that I get to be in pain all the time and there is nothing any one can do about it.

Mr.Jay
I was in a car accident in Dec. of 99.
There was alot of post accident pain, which gradually got better and better for about 3 months. Then I started hurting all over again, dispite the PT and massage. I went to the Dr. several times. I was diagnoses with FM. I went to a new Dr. who also diagnosed FM. Over a year later I can tell you it has deffinately progressed. I work full time. I have to. It use to be easy. Now, I am never sure if I will make it, especially in the mornings I can barely move.To answer your ? about leg pain, my leg always hurt. I am very sensitive to touch when my kids poke me in the shoulder to get my attention it sometimes brings tears to my eyes.My kneck and shoulders ache almost all the time. I am always in some pain its just that some times it is much worse.

Hi Shelia, did the doc's just diagnose you and send you home? Hopefully, you're under treatment for something to help with sleep/pain, usually they start with an anti-depressant. I've gone round and round for years and was only diagnosed a few months ago myself. It stinks but I'm doing whatever I can to feel better. Today is not one of my better days (HA) but I didn't get much sleep last night so it's not too surprising.

CIOC1212,
Well they tried to get me to take some anti depressant, but it made me feel hung over the next day and left a matalic taste i couldn't stand. I dont like taking pills. Especially if in the long run there not going to help.
The Dr. has offered no other treatment. I was told I will just have to deal with the pain. From what I have heard there isnt any real treatment for FM.

Oh honey there is treatment for FM, you need to get a new doctor! Didnt he tell you that anti-depressants sometimes have side effects that go away in a couple of weeks and to hang in there?
I take Amitriptyline aty bedtime and it worked for me.
There are also natural approaches you can take to help, supplements like Co-Enzyme Q10, calcium, and Magnesium help as does moderate excersise.
You dont have to live in pain all the time your Doc is not educated. Find another one or better yet go see a rumetologist (sp)
Please dont let FM take over your life like so many people do, be proacive and take charge!!

Gracie

PS My Chiropractor has been a lifesaver, as well as some massage and long hot baths!

Hi Smack. I have to agree with Gracie -- take the meds. From what I've read, the FM/MPS can affect the small muscles in the face and head, as well as your back and legs and everywhere else, creating massive headaches. Not at all uncommon. It also seems that FM is often accompanied by carbohydrate intolerance, so that people do well when they reduce or eliminate all sugar and as many carbos as possible. My daughter's headaches have nearly disappeared since she went on the low-carb diet and she only gets them now when she cheats!!!

Ditto and ditto. I've gotten a dramatic amount of relief from the meds and additional relief from vitamins/supplements and (gentle) exercise. It isn't going to get any better by itself unfortunately, you have to take some action. Don't give up before you've started!
