I am getting stomach soreness, pressure under the rib cage and base of sternum, lots of burping and bloating. This comes and goes I can find no trigger foods, it can be gone for a month and comes back for 2-3 days. My stomach is so sore when I get this I can not press or lay on it. Seems everytime I get it I have IBS.
symtons the next day, When I have it it is worse when I go to bed. Get a little heart burn on and off.
I discussed this with my Dr. she seems to think it acid reflux, but told me to use OTC meds first before a script. I am not sure if it is that, I am thinking spasms in my stomach or the IBS pushing the gas into the stomach.
Anyone else have this?
Hugs, Linda

Actually, I can empathize with you! Something to consider, is you may not be producing enough enzymes to properly digest your food. Your local health food store will carry digestive enzymes, that might help you find relief. Doctors often assume it is acid reflux, but sometimes it is the fact your body no longer produces enough enzymes to digest food properly.
Another thought is this. I stopped eating sugar and went on a low carb diet which is what my fibro doctor wanted me to do to help control hypoglycemia. When I started eating this way, a lot of my gastric symptoms disappeared, including the IBS. I have wondered if I may have had a yeast overload which was being overly fed by the carbs (another thought for you since many FMS sufferers have yeast overload and compromised immune systems). Do you have a carbaholic eating habit (I did!)?
Another thing to watch is dairy products. Are you possibly lactose intolerant?
Have you been tested for wheat intolerance?
Take care,

Thank you Kristi, you are a angel: for replying.
I don't think I am intolerant of anything because I can not find a food group that sets it off:confused: . I keep a food diary and nothing seem to be a trigger, I can eat ice cream, pizza you name it without a problem and than wham it hits again. Sometimes when I
eat that sore feeling goes away and other times it gets worse
My DR. said this happens as we age and especally in people who have had their gall bladders out. She says the bile is not there to digest the food when needed because the liver has no place to store it. But she thinks I do have a mild case of gerd, when it acts up it sure does not feel mild.
My neighbor was telling me she takes beano before every meals and that helps her with her stomach. She had a EGD and nothing was found.
Gas x helps but than I get constapated, can't win for losng, can we?
Thanks again Sweetie for replyng.

PA, I had my gallbladder removed almost 2 yrs before my fibro dx. I ate Tums like they were candy but my PCP didn't want to give me a Rx. Last Xmas, I went down to see my family. One brother was chatting with the other brother's fiancee. She asked him if he was still drinking the cider. I got curious so asked why they were drinking cider vinegar. She told me it was an old remendy for heartburn and that her dr had confirmed it worked. Her grandmother was the one who told her about it.
Anyways, my heartburn was so bad I was deperate and willing to try anything OTC. So I started looking to see if I could find it in capsules or something. Then I found apple cider vinegar tablets at Kmart so I started taking them, 2 tablets w/rest of my vitamins. Within 1 week, my heartburn was gone, unless I choose to eat a spicy food. I asked my rheumy about it and he said the apple cider vinegar increases the acidity of the stomach acid and taking the tablets is basically filling in for my gallbladder. And my rheumy also told me that the only side effects will be the nasty taste in my mouth, it doesn't interfere with any of my meds. But he also told me to wait about 2 hours for my vitamins after I take my morning meds because some of my vitamins can hinder some of my meds.
Oh yeah, after a while you get used to the taste but I save my cinnamon for last to get rid of the aftertaste of the vinegar.

Thanks for the info, I read that apple cider vinegar is good for acid reflux, but the thought of swallowing a tablespoon full, yuck. I did not know they came in pill form and am going to check it out.
i don't get a lot of heart burn, mainly the sore stomach feeling and the pressure. wonder if it will help with that.
By the way I love vinegar on my fries.
Thanks again, Linda

Linda so sorry you can't get a handle on the stomach problems. I can usually narrow mine down to certain foods. I use the GasX every night and take two (1in am and one pm) Zantac 150. I have also had my gallbladder removed, 12yrs. ago. Certain meds have caused me stomach pain so I usually take them with food. Right under the sternum does sound like GERD. Pain under your rib sounds like my duodinitis, it is on the right side.
Tweiler, thanks for the cider tip, I will remember it.

Hi Lady Qwen
Do your low ribs get sore with this and the base of your sternum. I am only getting the intestine pain when I gotta go. Everytime I have this I have the frequent bathroom visits the day after the stomach pain. my IBS was different before, I got the intestinal pain
Over the last few years the IBS flares have been minimal, but it sure has come back for months now. Just what we need more problems.
I was dxed with IBS yars before the fM.
Thanks, Linda

Im going thru the same exact thing!!!!! Ever since Feb. I've had discomfort in my lower right abdomin, I thought appendix.........well after blood work, urine/ctscan of lower and upper abdomin/sonogram and colonoscopy...I was DX'd with IBS.
Since Feb I also have discomfort between my ribs Im guessing the sternum and a few inches below my right rib. Food doesn't trigger........Ive noticed the more stressed or anxious I get that it will pop up!!!!!
All my labs and tests were perfect :)
I'm going to order some Digestive Advantage and see if that will help....if I take Maylox it makes it better, so I don't know what is going on with me.

Hi,
I have FM and also suffer with IBS I am currently going through a flare up of it. Have pain in my right ribs, hurts in my back too, burping, also feel quite feverish. Had a lot of stress recently so think this has what has caused it to flare up, but its nasty when its here.:( I am just taking pain relief and drinking lots of peppermint tea it seems to help.
