Hi! I'm new to the site (obviously), and I'm having some trouble lately getting motivated. I have an elliptical machine and I know what I should be doing... but I can't seem to get off my butt and DO IT. I'm trying to climb over this hill of inactivity one step at a time, but no matter how hard I try, I can't motivate myself. I want to start getting up early and exercising for at least 30 minutes on the machine... unfortunately, I am SO not a morning person. Could you help me with this? What do YOU do to get motivated? I need some tips!
Thanks in advance!

Motivation is the key to sucess, and you will not be sucessful if your not motivated! You have to truly want to be motivated. Make a list as to why you want to be fit, and get on your workout machine. Making a list of your desires and reflectioning on them will hopefully get you motivated. What may motivate me, may not motivate you. You have your own need and reasons, and you must WANT to fulfill them!

To be quite frank, I just get up and do it. There are days where I am tired, ill, depressed, or just don't feel like doing anything at all but you have to just FORCE yourself to do it!

Not everyone *enjoys* exercising so when you run into a situation where you can't seem to get off your butt, start small with 5 minutes on the elliptical. I love Elliptical machines; 15-20 minutes on that is almost 30 minutes on a treadmill. You just have to find something that will motivate you. I do find that listening to fast-beat (normally hip hop or pop) music works & helps energize you to get moving! :)

I'm not an out going person. I hate to watch tv because it makes me feel like a couch potatoe. I start doing sit ups sometimes but it hurts the bottom of my back which really discourages me from doing it. I did 100 or 150 one day but now I don't feel like doing it. When I move with my dad he has his small gym. When I want to exercise something in my head holds me back. I hate that  In my opinion I think I have good lower body but a bad upper :( Have any ideas how to stop watching tv and start using some of that time to use my dad's gym. Because I tell myself to use the gym but when the chance comes I blow it :(

If you're not a mornng person, do it in the evening. Calories burned are calories burned!

Alrighty... I just wasn't sure where to post, under weight loss or exercise, so I did both. Woops.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. I do want to be fit and lose some weight, it's just difficult to get out there and start! But thank you so much for replying. If anyone else has any thoughts, feel free to let me know... I'll keep checking back of course. :)
