About a year and a half ago, my left thumb nail split and eventually the whole nail came off. To date it has not grown back. There is a noticeable black streak on it too. Is there anything that I can buy or do to have the nail grow back again.

Have you been to a doctor about this yet? Perhaps you damaged the matrix. I don't know just a thought. You probably should go to the doctor though if you have not. I do believe there are vitamans that help your nails grow faster. Maybe you could do a search online for those.

If there is a dark brown or black streak in the nail that begins from under the cuticle and grows all the way to the free edge, then ther eis a very large chance that you may have a melanoma growing in the matrix. This can make the nail plate 'fall off', but is a huge health concern. Go see you rdermatologist to rule out nail malanoma. If it is a malanoma, they need to do surgery to remove it and perform a biopsy to be sure it is not cancer.
