View Full Version : Major relief from antacid - what?

For the past two weeks I've been experiencing a sore throat, post nasal drip (I think), mucus, and severe ear pain from either GERD and/or LPR. I've been taking a PPI and a H2 receptor antagonist for these two weeks. The other night I ate something that made my symptoms even worse, it was horrible. I decided to try an antacid and to my amazement it made all my symptoms go almost completely away within minutes. Since then I've taken a little bit of the antacid when needed but my symptoms are almost completely gone. I've gotten far more relief from a cheap antacid then from these expensive PPIs and H2 receptor antagonists.

Can anyone explain why this is happening? It kind of worries me. It makes me think something else is going on.

I've been suffering from the same symptoms for several months. I've been on Nexium and Zantac for 2 weeks with no relief either. I have thought about trying over the counter Tums or Rolaids but wasn't sure if it was okay with the other meds. I have read other posts that people find relief with simple OTC meds rather than the prescription ones. Go figure! If it works for you I say go for it! I hope you continue to feel better.
