I Am 28 Years Old. I Have 3 Beautiful Children, 2 Boys, 6 And 4 Yrs Old And A Girl, 15 Months. I Have Recently Been Told That I Have Hpv(without Warts) And After Doing A Colpo And Biopsy I Was Then Told That Precancerous Cells Were Found And That I Needed To Schedule A Leep Procedure (scheduled For Sept. 11th,2007) However I Am Terrified Because I Have Been Reading All Sorts Of Negative Things About After The Leep Is Done. I Want More Children One Day But If I Have To Sacrifice That For Getting Cervical Cancer Than I Would Just Be Grateful To God That He Has Blessed Me With My Kids Now. Also That You Can Get Infections And The Procedure Might Need To Be Repeated! Can Anyone Tell Me Some Words Of Encouragement? Please Be Truthful!

Relax, take a deep breath...
-you can have children after the LEEP. I am planning on starting my own family within the next year and I have had the surgery as well. Generally, you go under anesthesia for the LEEP- I have heard that some doctors don't do that still but my doctor believes very strongly in having the patient well asleep for the procedure. From the way the actual procedure sounds, I would personally not want to witness it- I can barely deal with the paps anyway- yerg. I actually found the LEEP the easiest thing to deal with as I wasn't awake for it and it seemed a whole lot simpler than my own emotional state at the time (finding out I had HPV after seven years of marriage with no symptoms- worrying, very much like you, about whether or not I would be able to have children. I had the LEEP a year ago and since then no HPV- and I had developed CIN III quite rapidly. So my advice is take a deep breath, relax, find support in your husband and close friends, and know that things will get better. Stay strong!

I was awake for my LEEP and it was FINE. The noise from the machine is a big scary but other than that it was OK.

You can have children after, the worst WORST thing would be to have your cervex sewn shut later on in the pregnancy. I had one about 5 years ago and am planning on having children next year (well TTC) and i've been taking folic acid religiously since i had it.

Good luck!

i had a leep performed at the end of june (if you look on the cervical cancer board you will find a full blown "report" of teh process, that iw rote)....i am the worlds most scaredy cat when it come sto needles, at 30 year sold i still cower at the thought of them, but i had my process done under local anisthetic and can honestly say it is nothing to worry about, its better tahn the dentist as you can talk through it, which certainly made me less anxious!

as for the after effects....well im two months on and at teh momernt my periods rae all over the palce - i've been told toe xpect this fro upto six months. last month i had an extra heavy one, and this month a none existant one!i also knwo of people on the cervicla cancer board having two in a month etc etc....

after yoru periods balance out though tehre shoudl be no reason why you cant conceive. i had a long talk with my doctor on thsi, as at my age it is one of the things i plan on doing once i get my three all clears. teh doctor todl me taht it shouldnt effect my conceivinga tall, however depending on teh depth of teh leep etc, they may need to insert a stitch to aid me carrying full term, and i may not be able to have a natural birth:but to be honest in the grand scheme of things that doesnt bother me, aslong a si can still ahve a baby with my partnert one day.
