I was driving down the Interstate the other day making a delivery for work and I had the sudden urge to go, but obviously being on the Interstate I couldn't just pull over and do it on the side of the road. The urge was pretty hard but I had to hold it back untill I got back to work - only problem is when I got back to work I couldn't go. Ever since then I've been having really, really small BM's, nothing like my usual. I have a feeling of fullness in my lower stomach (like I do about 10 minutes before I have to go) but I go to the Bathroom, and nada. Am I constipated? Or is it something more serious? I get sort of a pain right below my belly button, about an inch or so down. If its constipation, what should I look for to rectify the situation? I took two ex-lax about 4 1/2 hours ago and nada so far  I just want to go potty!

Are you drinking plenty of water? I know the agony of wanting to go and not being able to. I drink a fiber type supplement (konsyl) every morning to avoid this problem to start with. That keeps me pretty regular. But, as an immediate measure, the ex-lax, suppository, or enema may work. I am not a big fan of those types of solutions tho. I guess the ultimate goal is to avoid this to start with. Also, plenty of fiber. Review Harry's post for great details on this.
I wish you great success!

UPDATE:

It is now Sunday, and im still having the same problem. I'm not completely backed up, but when I do go it's nothing like it used to be, very small ammounts. I dropped the ex-lax because I really didn't like it, I felt very unnatural when I would take it, so I went to Wal-Mart and got some Equate Fiber Therapy pills. Says its a bulk forming laxative that's 100% Natural Psyllium Husk Fiber. Would the possibly help as well? I've tried an enema too - didn't like it too much and it didn't work all that well, I felt very bloated afterwards.

I've continued taking the Fiber Therapy laxatives, doesn't seem to be much help though. It's been a week now since ive had a decent sized BM, when does this go from annoying to dangerous? Should I go to the doctor? Or just stick with the fiber untill it works itself out? When I push on my lower stomach under my belly button, I feel pressure like theres definately something there.

I've not had the problem, but know others who have had obstructions. They recommend getting down on all fours and rocking forward and backward. There are some foods that will encourage movements. My husband swears by pears. Staying hydrated is important. Colace is also recommended as a laxative.

Excellent, at this point I am willing to try -ANYTHING-, im not used to having this problem and took great pride in my ability to go 1-2 times a day, so this is making me inredibly uncomfortable.

Slowly being able to go to the bathroom now, its coming out in small (but larger than before) very hard lumps. But now ive got another problem.

My lower back burns when I lay down, and my sides get a sharp pain when I breathe out sometimes. Could this be from all of the intense straining that I did when trying to go #2? I feel a little warm but I should also note that I have a sinus infection which is causing a lot of drainage in the back of my throat, and from what I understand sinus infections can cause fever too.

Last Sat. I got bad diarrhea until Sun. From Mon - Wed. nothing - my stomach was hurting - called doctor she told me to try Miralax - I did - then I started going the next day - but I still don't seem right either! My stomach seems as though it hurts constantly - I guess I am going to have to go to the doctor. I get worried about appendicitis and gallbladder, etc. I don't understand why I keep hurting.
