millie123 08-17-2007, 12:35 PM im 15 can anyone give me some words of support im soo scared i had the colonoscopy once and hurt like hell im soo scared im having it done this wednesday Sponsor George W 08-18-2007, 03:39 PM I been there done that too .. The first time I had a colonostipy I was in great pain mostly I think because I woke up in the middle of it and they didn't have time to get all the gas out that they use to expand things.. I was great pain for almost 4 hours. I had a polyp removed that I should have had re looked at in a year.. I was like you only I was about 35 years old at the time so I didn't go back for 8 years in fear of the pain. I talked to the doctor and told him about it. I also talked to the guy that was going to knock me out. Tell him the hole story of the ho-red experience I had last time and that you want to be totally out of it knowing nothing this time and to make sure to ask the doctor doing it to get all the gas out.. This last one i had was a piece of cake.. No pain at all nothing!!! I was out of it till they woke me in the recovery room.. It was totally 100% pain free.. One key is if you have to pass gas do so and don't worry who is there or who will hear.. So it can go well just speak up and let them ALL know the issues you had last time.. Best of luck you ya!! Perhaps request that your doctor make sure that you are completely sedated. My gastroenterologist only does them when the patient is completely sedated. He takes care of the procedures and then you end up waking up in the recovery room (they immediately brought me 7 up and crackers, since I hadn't eaten in 36 hours!!). The only side effect that I had from the procedure, for some reason, was a bit of constipation and minor abdominal pain after eating. Within a few days, I was just fine. Again, do talk to your doctor about sedation if you are frightened. It is completely worth it. millie123 08-21-2007, 07:26 AM thanks for replying im starting my prep at 2 o clock 2dai that part didnt bother me last time it was the actual procedure so im not worried about the prep just the procedure im having it done tomorrow :( sunshine123 08-21-2007, 07:47 PM I also had a problem with my first Colonoscopy. I woke up before it was over and it felt like someone was scraping my stomach with a pitchfork. I couldn't move and they weren't looking at me. Just make sure they give you enough sedation. |
