Does anyone take meds for bipolar? If so, does anyone know any meds that don['t cause weight gain? I am bulimic and feel I am gaining weight on Abilify. My psychiatrist says that it is very rare for it to cause weight gain, but I am eating more lately and hungry all the time since I started taking it.

thanks:)

Hi,

I believe that Geodon and Topomax and Lamictal are weight-neutral, can even cause weight loss (maybe not the Lamictal on the latter).

Seems as if with bulimia, your doc would understand that a weight gain from the meds would make that worse.

Hope this helps.

I hope you want to get better. There are plenty of meds that don't cause as much weight gain as others. They use many of the same meds to treat an ED as they do for bipolar. We are all here to get support and find ways to feel better. So, I wish lots o' luck.

Hi there

All my life I have been very thin, that was until I started taking meds for my bipolar and gained [weight] almost overnight. I'm so depressed about this and hate going out coz I'm afraid people will see me and I'm just so embarrased. I hate it soooooooooooo much. I've tried taking the weight neutrel meds and I don't agree with any of them. As far as I know Lamictal, Topamax and Geodon are not weight gainers. If you can help it never take Zyprexa or Seroquel, they are big time weight gainers.

Thanks
